Bandai Reveals Zeta Gundam’s Exclusive New Psycho Gundam Gunpla Kit

Bandai has officially revealed a huge new special-coating Gunpla kit based on the Psycho Gundam from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.

The “HG 1/144 THE GUNDAM BASE LIMITED PSYCHO GUNDAM [SPECIAL COATING]” gives the enormous transformable Mobile Suit a premium reflective finish and will make its debut through The Gundam Base Hong Kong as part of the store’s first anniversary celebrations.

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam originally aired in 1985 as the direct sequel to the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime, following Kamille Bidan and the AEUG during their conflict against the increasingly authoritarian Titans.

The Psycho Gundam was developed by the Murasame Newtype Lab as an enormous machine for Cyber-Newtype pilots, combining a Psycommu system with multiple mega particle cannons and the ability to transform between its towering Mobile Suit form and a Mobile Fortress configuration.

Its first pilot, Four Murasame, became one of the most important characters in Kamille’s story after initially encountering him in New Hong Kong, where the Psycho Gundam’s immense firepower was unleashed across the city.

That connection to Hong Kong has been carried directly into the new kit’s packaging, with newly revealed box art showing the Psycho Gundam confronting the Gundam Mk-II during the Battle of New Hong Kong as Chinese storefront signs fill the background.

Bandai has continued revisiting the Gundam Mk-II separately throughout 2026, including the long-awaited reveal of its enormous METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI figure after the project spent several years without a confirmed retail release.

The new Psycho Gundam is based on Bandai’s existing HGUC 1/144 kit, which originally launched in 2004 and remains considerably larger than most High Grade Gunpla due to the Mobile Suit’s roughly 40-meter height within the anime.

Its transformation has been retained, allowing the completed model to switch between the Psycho Gundam’s Mobile Suit and Mobile Fortress forms.

The three mega particle cannons across its chest are recreated as separate parts, while slide molding is used to reproduce the barrels of the ten additional beam cannons built into its fingers.

The major change comes from the exterior finish, with the machine’s darker armor receiving a reflective, near-plated treatment that gives it a much heavier metallic appearance.

It follows the HG 1/144 Psycho Gundam [Metallic Gloss Injection] released through The Gundam Base in 2025, although the new Special Coating version uses a noticeably different finish from that earlier metallic-molded edition.

The Gundam Base’s Hong Kong flagship is located at The Twins in Kai Tak and is now approaching its first anniversary, while Bandai has also been rapidly expanding the network elsewhere with new permanent Gundam Base locations opening across the US, Japan and Australia.

Store-specific Gunpla have increasingly accompanied that expansion, including the recently revealed RG Unicorn Gundam [Psycho-Frame Resonance Ver.] created for The Gundam Base Sydney.

Hong Kong’s anniversary celebrations will extend well beyond the Psycho Gundam, with a special exhibition featuring a 3.6-meter ν Gundam display based on the PG UNLEASHED kit, a six-meter Christmas tree constructed from Gunpla and model-kit boxes, and a nearly three-meter festive Haro.

A new pop-up store in the Ground Floor Atrium of The Twins will expand The Gundam Base’s existing presence and offer around 400 Gunpla releases, with several additional kits scheduled to appear in stages throughout the event.

“THE GUNDAM BASE HONG KONG x The Twins 1st Anniversary” will run from November 21, 2026 through January 10, 2027 at The Twins in Kai Tak.

While the “HG 1/144 THE GUNDAM BASE LIMITED PSYCHO GUNDAM [SPECIAL COATING]” has been confirmed for an advance Hong Kong release, Bandai has yet to announce its price, exact launch date or whether it will subsequently become available through other Gundam Base locations internationally.
