Bandai’s New Gundam Base Store Gets Official Opening Date as Exclusive Gunpla Kits Revealed

“THE GUNDAM BASE SHIBUYA” will open on the fifth floor of Tokyo’s Shibuya PARCO shopping complex, introducing a new retail concept featuring monthly rotating Gunpla collections, custom artwork, and large Gundam displays.

The Gundam Base is Bandai’s official retail network dedicated to Gundam plastic models, commonly known as Gunpla, offering a wide selection of kits alongside exclusive releases, limited-edition merchandise and other products inspired by the franchise.

Bandai originally announced plans for the new Shibuya location in September 2026, although its opening date, interior design and launch merchandise had yet to be revealed.

The store joins the existing Gundam Base locations in Tokyo, including its main store at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba, and forms part of Bandai’s continued expansion of its dedicated Gunpla retail network.

That expansion has also reached the US, where the first permanent Gundam Base opened in Chicago in December 2025, although the planned opening of a second location at Minnesota’s Mall of America was postponed in September, with Bandai yet to announce a replacement date.

The store’s exterior features a large LED display showing original animations that combine Gunpla with Shibuya’s cityscape, alongside special 3D footage depicting Gundam model dioramas.

Inside, visitors will find bust displays of three popular Mobile Suits: the original RX-78-2 Gundam, the Strike Freedom Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, and the Unicorn Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
A large graphic wall will also feature original artwork by designer Nori Yokoyama, who has reworked classic Gunpla box illustrations created by Naoki Morishita into new Shibuya-inspired designs.

The artwork draws from the packaging of the “HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam”, “HGCE 1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam” and “HGUC 1/144 Unicorn Gundam (Destroy Mode)” kits.
One of the store’s biggest attractions will be the “Shibuya Collection”, a dedicated retail area featuring approximately 15 different Gunpla kits, with the entire selection changing every month.

The collection will focus on previously released kits, including limited-edition models and rarer products that aren’t necessarily stocked at other Gundam Base locations, giving visitors another opportunity to pick up some harder-to-find releases.
Three kits have been confirmed for the opening collection, including an existing Gundam Base-exclusive Master Grade and two Clear Color High Grade kits that originally launched as event-exclusive products in January 2022.

The remaining kits included in the first month’s collection will be announced at a later date, with stock subject to availability.
Alongside Gunpla, the store will carry official Gundam clothing, stationery, accessories, snacks and other merchandise.

Bandai has also announced a special opening campaign featuring an original sticker decorated with Nori Yokoyama’s Gundam artwork.
The sticker will be given to the first 3,000 customers who spend at least ¥5,000 (approximately $32 / £24) in a single transaction, with the promotion ending once supplies run out.
“THE GUNDAM BASE SHIBUYA” will officially open on November 20, 2026, at Shibuya PARCO, 15-1 Udagawacho, Shibuya, Tokyo, with regular opening hours from 11 AM to 9 PM and free admission.

Visitors will need to secure an entry slot through an advance lottery during the store’s opening period, with entry restrictions applying throughout November 20 to November 30 to manage expected crowds.
Applications for the lottery will be accepted from November 9 at 10 AM JST until November 15 at 11:59 PM JST, with successful applicants being notified from November 16.

Each successful application will permit entry for the named applicant only, with an exception for visitors requiring assistance, and Bandai has warned that an entry reservation does not guarantee the availability of specific products.
Full application instructions will be announced through The Gundam Base’s official website ahead of the lottery opening.
