A 44 year old man in Fukuoka City has been arrested on suspicion of voyeurism, after a report of a man covertly filming members of the public in a shopping center toilet.
The arrest took place on the 18th of April at around midday, at the shopping area of “ACROS Fukuoka”, a multi-purpose venue that is home to conference and shopping facilities, as well as the Fukuoka Symphony Hall.

At approximately 10:30am, a 24 year old man using a stall in one of the center’s public restrooms noticed a smartphone peering over the top of the stall he was using.
The man immediately notified police, stating: “Someone is taking pictures of me in the restroom. The culprit is still in there, I think.”
Police promptly attended and found a man in the stall next to the one used by the victim, apprehending him for further questioning.
When the suspect’s smartphone was checked, police found two videos, which combined were around 5 minutes in length, of the victims lower half, that had clearly been taken from above.

The suspect, 44 year old Makoto Nanakusa, was formally arrested on charges of voyeurism following the discovery of the evidence.
Faced with the evidence, Nanakusa admitted to his actions, as police had also discovered videos of more than 50 other similar incidents on his phone.
In a statement given to police, he confirmed that his actions were sexually motivated, admitting: “I just wanted to see the man’s genitals.”
Police are currently investigating the additional footage found to ensure the suspects faces the full consequences of his crimes.
