Tien and Chaozu were originally introduced in Dragon Ball as students of Master Shen’s Crane School, initially appearing as rivals to Goku and his friends during the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament.

The pair eventually became trusted allies, joining Earth’s defenders against increasingly powerful enemies throughout Dragon Ball Z.
One of their most memorable appearances comes during the Saiyan Saga, when Chaozu sacrifices himself in an attempt to defeat Nappa, leaving a devastated Tien to continue fighting despite suffering severe injuries.

The new figures recreate Tien and Chaozu in their familiar martial arts clothing, with Tien wearing his green one-shoulder outfit, red sash and matching wristbands.

His muscular build and signature third eye are reproduced in the initial images, which show Tien standing with clenched fists and an intense expression.

Chaozu appears in his light blue sleeveless top, loose black trousers, and red waistband, complete with his black cap, red pom-pom, and circular cheek markings.

This isn’t the first time the duo has appeared in the S.H.Figuarts collection, with Bandai previously releasing a shirtless Tien figure in 2017 that included a smaller Chaozu accessory based on his self-destruct attack against Nappa.

A separate “S.H.Figuarts Tien Shinhan & Chiaotzu” set followed in 2021, pairing Tien in his green martial arts uniform with a fully articulated Chaozu and a selection of interchangeable parts.

The new Z Fighters editions also join several other recently revealed Dragon Ball Z S.H.Figuarts releases, including updated versions of Vegeta and Future Trunks inspired by their appearances during the Android and Cell Sagas.

Future Trunks has received a matching release based on his black tank top appearance, with additional head parts, interchangeable expressions, and a special display base section that can be combined with other Z Fighters releases.

The wider collection is designed to allow fans to gradually assemble the group of heroes featured in the anime’s opening sequence, with a new Gohan figure also receiving a special first-edition display base component.

These new Z Fighters S.H.Figuarts releases also introduce updated sculpting and articulation, with Vegeta and Gohan featuring Bandai’s Dynamic-Movable Shoulder System and Future Trunks incorporating redesigned joints in selected areas.

That raises the possibility of similar improvements for Tien and Chaozu, although Bandai has yet to confirm whether either figure features newly developed sculpts or updated joint mechanisms.
