An exclusive Gunpla kit of Gundam SEED’s Astray Red Frame Kai has officially returned to the US for a limited time, with its fiery red and gold Cross Contrast Colors Master Grade receiving a restock as part of a major promotion.

The “MG 1/100 GUNDAM ASTRAY RED FRAME KAI [CROSS CONTRAST COLORS / POLARIZED INJECTION]” is among more than 200 Gunpla kits and related accessories included in Gundam Winter Fest 2026, a Premium Bandai US promotion featuring a large selection of returning models and special editions.

The Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED VS Astray, a photo-illustrated story set within the Cosmic Era timeline that expanded upon the adventures of Lowe Guele and his distinctive red-framed Mobile Suit.

Lowe, a skilled mechanic and member of the Junk Guild, originally acquired the Astray Red Frame after discovering it abandoned at the ruined Heliopolis space colony, eventually transforming the machine through numerous modifications and upgrades.

The Red Frame Kai represented one of its most extensively modified configurations, incorporating equipment developed from Lowe’s experiences working with other Mobile Suits, including the enormous Tactical Arms IIL system.

Bandai originally released the standard “MG 1/100 Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai” in February 2010, reproducing the upgraded machine with its signature twin katana weapons and elaborate transforming backpack.

The Cross Contrast Colors edition followed in December 2024 as part of a limited collection introduced through Bandai’s Chinese division, replacing the original Gundam’s familiar white armor with a darker appearance accented by metallic red and gold components.

This version was developed alongside the “MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos [Cross Contrast Colors / Polarized Injection],” with the two kits adopting contrasting color schemes inspired by fire and cooler blue tones.

One of the biggest features of the Astray Red Frame Kai is its use of Polarized Injection molding, a special technique that produces surfaces that change appearance depending on the direction and intensity of the light.

The technique is applied to selected armor components, sections of the Gundam’s frame, and its katana blades, creating shifting reflections that range between deep red and golden tones.

These are complemented by additional gold-colored parts around the mechanical structure, giving the completed model a more elaborate appearance while preserving the Astray Red Frame’s signature exposed framework.

Bandai designed the alternative coloring around the image of a red demon wielding powerful blades, with the metallic finishes particularly prominent across the Gundam’s torso, limbs, and weapons.

Beneath the revised exterior, the model retains the articulated internal frame and mechanical features of the original Master Grade, allowing builders to recreate the agile sword-fighting poses associated with Lowe’s Mobile Suit.

Its most prominent equipment is the Tactical Arms IIL, an oversized multipurpose weapon system mounted on the Gundam’s backpack that can transform into several different configurations.

These include a large Sword Form for close combat, a Flight Form that extends behind the Mobile Suit, and an Arrow Form that converts the equipment into an enormous bow.

The system also incorporates a Work Form for carrying out mechanical tasks, reflecting Lowe’s background as a junk dealer and the practical applications of his customized equipment.

Alongside the Tactical Arms IIL, the kit includes the Gerbera Straight and Tiger Pierce, two traditional Japanese-style swords that have become closely associated with the Astray Red Frame.

The weapons feature separate scabbards and detailed handles, with the Cross Contrast Colors edition introducing the same polarized molding treatment to their blades for an additional metallic effect.

Other accessories include interchangeable hands, a Beam Torch, and miniature Lowe Guele figures, providing further display options for the completed Master Grade.

The accompanying “MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos [Cross Contrast Colors / Polarized Injection]”” is also available through Premium Bandai US during Gundam Winter Fest, giving collectors an opportunity to purchase both models from the same limited collection.

That version recreates the Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Mobile Suit with metallic blue and violet components, using Polarized Injection molding to produce a shifting finish that contrasts with the Astray Red Frame Kai’s warmer coloring.
