Bandai Announces New Full Armor ZZ Gundam METAL ROBOT SPIRITS Upgrade Set

The “METAL ROBOT SPIRITS (Ka signature) Full Armor Parts Set for Enhanced ZZ Gundam” has been announced as part of a much larger wave of premium figures celebrating the 1986 anime, with the expansion scheduled to arrive alongside the separately sold Enhanced ZZ Gundam in 2027.

Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ originally aired as the direct sequel to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, following teenage junk dealer Judau Ashta as he becomes involved with the Argama and eventually becomes the pilot of the powerful MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam during the First Neo Zeon War.
ZZ Gundam was already an exceptionally powerful machine, combining three separate components into a transformable Mobile Suit equipped with multiple high-output generators and some of the heaviest weaponry carried by an AEUG Gundam.
Its complicated combination and transformation systems came with structural compromises, however, leading to a series of improvements as Neo Zeon’s increasingly powerful Mobile Suits pushed Judau and the Argama into more demanding battles.

Enhanced ZZ Gundam was developed as an intermediate upgrade, strengthening the original machine while introducing enlarged armor, an improved backpack, larger thrusters, and increased generator output.
That upgraded configuration then serves as the foundation for Full Armor ZZ Gundam, which takes the improvements considerably further by attaching additional armor and weaponry across the Mobile Suit.

The resulting Full Armor configuration substantially changes ZZ Gundam’s silhouette, surrounding much of its body with heavy protective equipment while further increasing the firepower available to Judau.
Bandai’s newly announced parts set has been created specifically for the separately sold “METAL ROBOT SPIRITS (Ka signature) Enhanced ZZ Gundam,” allowing owners to recreate that final configuration using the same underlying figure.

The first promotional images show additional armor covering large sections of the shoulders, chest, arms, waist, and legs, giving the already bulky Enhanced ZZ an even heavier appearance while preserving the recognizable proportions of the anime design.
Its massive backpack becomes an even more dominant part of the completed figure, while the additional equipment brings the model much closer to the heavily armed Full Armor ZZ Gundam seen during the latter stages of the series.

The expansion will also include additional weapon accessories required to complete the Full Armor configuration, although Bandai has deliberately kept much of the set hidden ahead of its full reveal.
That makes the parts set particularly interesting for collectors buying the new Enhanced ZZ Gundam, as the two releases have effectively been designed as companion products rather than completely separate interpretations of Judau’s machine.

The underlying Enhanced ZZ figure retains its combination and transformation mechanisms, die-cast components and Hajime Katoki-supervised detailing, while the expansion provides the additional equipment needed to take the Mobile Suit beyond its upgraded base form.

Bandai has so far only shown partial images of the finished Full Armor ZZ Gundam, leaving the complete accessory lineup, individual armor components, and final price to be confirmed when detailed product information is released.
The Full Armor Parts Set forms part of a wider Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ 40th anniversary TAMASHII NATIONS project that also introduces several other important machines from the series to Bandai’s premium figure ranges.

Among them is the first-ever ROBOT SPIRITS Quin Mantha, recreating Ple-Two’s enormous Neo Zeon Mobile Suit with a new Marking Plus treatment and extensive printed detailing.

Chara Soon’s Geymalk is also returning through “THE ROBOT SPIRITS (Ka signature) Geymalk [Re: Coordinate],” which updates the original 2014 figure with revised anime-inspired colors and pre-printed markings.

The third major release is the new “METAL ROBOT SPIRITS (Ka signature) Enhanced ZZ Gundam” itself, which provides the base figure required to use the Full Armor Parts Set and retains the Mobile Suit’s combination and G-Fortress transformation features.

Japanese pre-orders for the “METAL ROBOT SPIRITS (Ka signature) Full Armor Parts Set for Enhanced ZZ Gundam” are scheduled to open through Premium Bandai Japan on September 18, when Bandai is also expected to reveal the complete contents and price.
The Full Armor Parts Set is scheduled for release in April 2027, matching the planned shipping period for the Enhanced ZZ Gundam and allowing collectors to add both to their collections simultaneously.
The expansion is also expected to become available through Premium Bandai US, although American listings can take several days to appear following their Japanese counterparts.
