Akira Toriyama Inspires Bandai’s 200th Dragon Ball S.H.Figuarts Figure
The Dragon Ball franchise is continuing its massive 40th-anniversary celebrations with the announcement of a luxury collector’s set containing an exclusive action figure.
Shueisha, in collaboration with Bandai Spirits, has revealed the Dragon Ball S.H.Figuarts Collection “Son Goku <Beyond the Adventure>” Set, a special release designed to commemorate the Dragon Ball S.H.Figuarts series surpassing 200 different figures.
This exclusive package includes a comprehensive history book and a brand-new action figure based on a rare piece of artwork by creator Akira Toriyama.
The figure brings to life an illustration originally drawn for the “Catchphrase Grand Prix” featured in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 23 in 1989.
While the illustration features Goku, it differs from his standard appearance, as it shows him in unique travel gear.
This will be the first time this specific iteration of Goku has been transformed into a fully articulated action figure.
To capture the dynamic nature of Toriyama’s art, the figure incorporates a newly developed “Dynamic-Movable Shoulder System”, which allows for a wider range of motion to faithfully recreate iconic poses like the Kamehameha.
The sculpting was overseen by a team of veteran artists, including Hiroyuki Nakazawa and Ren Kato of STUDIO-LOTUS, along with creative director Yusuke Watanabe.
The set comes with a variety of accessories designed to emphasize movement, including two versions of the “Nyoibo” (Power Pole), one straight and one curved to simulate action, as well as interchangeable cape parts that appear to flutter in the wind.
The accompanying history book, titled Dragon Ball S.H.Figuarts Collection, serves as a complete archive of the product line.
Formatted to the same size as the standard Jump Comics manga volumes, it is designed to sit perfectly on a bookshelf alongside the original series.
Inside, fans will find full-color information on every S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball figure released to date, along with interviews and columns featuring the production staff.
This announcement follows a weekend of major news for the franchise, including the reveal of the Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol anime and a 40th-anniversary video scored by Hans Zimmer, cementing 2026 as a landmark year for the series.
The Dragon Ball S.H.Figuarts Collection “Son Goku <Beyond the Adventure>” Set is priced at 13,200 yen (approx. $89.00 USD / £70.00 GBP).
Pre-orders will open on Monday, January 26, 2026, and will remain available until Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The figure is scheduled for release on Friday, October 23, 2026, and can be reserved via the Shueisha “S-MANGA” website and major bookstores.
