Pokemon Center MEGA TOKYO Closed After Female Employee Killed in Stabbing Attack

A tragic incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, March 26, resulting in the deaths of two individuals at a popular retail location in Tokyo.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a fatal stabbing that took place at the Pokemon Center located inside the Sunshine City shopping complex in Ikebukuro.

According to investigative sources, multiple emergency calls were made around 7:20 PM reporting a person acting violently within the store.

A female employee in her 20s was suddenly attacked and stabbed with a bladed weapon by a male suspect, also believed to be in his 20s.

The injured woman was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment but was unfortunately pronounced dead.
Following the attack on the employee, the male suspect reportedly turned the weapon on himself and stabbed his own neck.

He later succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries and was also pronounced dead.
Sunshine City is a massive commercial complex in the Toshima Ward of Tokyo, housing various indoor theme parks, an aquarium, and numerous retail stores.

The Ikebukuro district serves as a major commercial and entertainment hub, drawing large crowds of domestic and international visitors on a daily basis.
The Pokemon Center itself is a highly popular destination within the facility, serving as a dedicated merchandise store for the globally recognized video game and anime franchise.

The busy family-friendly retail environment was suddenly disrupted by this unexpected act of violence.
Further interviews with investigative sources have revealed that the police may have received prior consultations concerning the two individuals involved.

Details regarding the exact nature of their relationship or the specific contents of the previous police consultations have not been publicly disclosed at this time, though it is widely suspected that the attacker was stalking the victim, leading her to report him to the police.
Authorities are continuing their thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances and motives that led to this fatal encounter.
The Pokémon Company has issued a statement advising that the Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO in Ikebukuro will remain closed until an as yet unspecified time due to the incident:
We sincerely apologize for the great concern and inconvenience this has caused everyone.”
