ZPF Side-Scrolling Shoot ’Em Up Launches April 16 on Consoles and PC

Mega Cat Studios and the ZPF Team have announced that the retro-inspired side-scrolling shoot ’em up ZPF will arrive on modern platforms on April 16, 2026.
The game was originally released for the SEGA Genesis and Mega Drive on November 20, 2025, through the Mega Cat Studios Store and is now making the jump to Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
Priced at $9.99, this horizontal shooter draws heavy inspiration from 16-bit classics such as Lords of Thunder, Elemental Master, and the Thunderforce series.
Players can choose from three different heroes, including a teleporting trickster and a laser-wielding warrior, to navigate through six stages of intense pixel art mayhem.
The experience features unique character playstyles, melee attacks, and a variety of power-ups available at in-game shops.
Each of the fantasy and science fiction-themed worlds concludes with epic mid and end-stage boss battles that require specific strategies to overcome.
The title is a passion project from the designer and developer behind Super XYX and Tanzer, offering high-speed arcade action and numerous hidden secrets.
Fans of the genre can look forward to dodging complex bullet patterns and discovering a treasure trove of content when the game launches on April 16, 2026.
