Virtua Fighter Crossroads Officially Announced

SEGA and RGG Studio officially announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads during the Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, as the next major entry in the long-running fighting franchise.
The game is scheduled for release in 2027 and represents a significant departure from series tradition by incorporating a narrative-driven action-adventure structure.
Players will navigate the fictional Southeast Asian city of Vilasapara, a location where the use of firearms is punishable by death and martial arts culture is prevalent.
The plot follows four different protagonists, including an American underground fighter named Cielo, whose lives intersect amidst the rise of a mysterious figure known as the Bakunawa Killer.
RGG Studio, the team behind the Like a Dragon and Judgment series, is utilizing its expertise in city-building and storytelling to create a world filled with side quests and choice-driven encounters.
To bolster the narrative, a writing team was assembled featuring World Building Supervisor David Hayter, Lead Writer Brad Kane, Scenario Director Tsuyoshi Furuta, and Scenario Writer Shinji Yamamoto.
While the story mode features multi-opponent brawls and boss encounters, the game will also include a Versus mode with local and online options to maintain its competitive legacy.
The combat system is designed to retain the realistic, intuitive controls the series is known for while introducing updated mechanics to enhance tactical depth.
During a showcase held at 5:00 pm PT on June 5, 2026, developers revealed that the game will transition from adventure exploration to a traditional fighting camera angle when combat begins.
Fans can expect the return of classic characters such as a more seasoned Pai Chan, who was revealed in a story trailer following the initial announcement.
