Bandai Officially Brings Back Gundam SEED’s Fan-Favorite MG Destiny Impulse R Gunpla Kit

Bandai is bringing back one of Gundam SEED Destiny’s more obscure Impulse variants, with the Master Grade Destiny Impulse Gundam R returning for a new production run.
The “MG 1/100 DESTINY IMPULSE GUNDAM R (REGENES)” recreates the heavily modified Mobile Suit from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Astray R, complete with its enormous Destiny R Silhouette backpack and twin long-range beam cannons.

SEED Destiny Astray R is an official side story set within Gundam’s Cosmic Era timeline, expanding beyond the events and Mobile Suits shown in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny anime.

The Destiny Impulse Gundam R is a further development of the earlier Destiny Impulse concept, which attempted to combine the Impulse Gundam’s adaptable Silhouette System with equipment that would eventually help shape the Destiny Gundam.

Development of that original machine was halted as ZAFT moved toward the Destiny Gundam, but research continued elsewhere and eventually produced the Destiny Impulse R with a different approach to its equipment and operation.
The original Destiny Impulse has itself remained a popular Gunpla subject, with its Real Grade model winning Premium Bandai’s 2024 Gunpla General Election before returning for another production run.

The MG Destiny Impulse Gundam R first appeared in February 2014 and has also proved popular with Premium Bandai collectors, finishing seventh in the same 2024 fan vote.
Its most prominent feature is the Destiny R Silhouette mounted across the back, which gives the otherwise Impulse-derived Mobile Suit a dramatically larger profile.

Bandai recreates the central section with newly molded parts, including its mono-eye-equipped nose, while the large wings can extend outward to create an even wider display configuration.

Unlike a conventional backpack, the Destiny R Silhouette is designed to operate independently from the Mobile Suit and can be displayed separately using an Action Base 1, sold separately.

The pack is also compatible with several Master Grade kits designed to accept Striker Packs, including the MG Aile Strike Gundam Ver.RM, Strike Rouge Ootori Ver.RM and Strike Noir.

Its primary weapons are a pair of Wolfsbane long-range beam turrets mounted on either side of the backpack, which can swing forward over the shoulders for firing poses.
Both cannons can also be removed from the Destiny R Silhouette and carried directly in the Gundam’s hands, while a beam rifle and shield complete the main weapons loadout.

Bandai includes an alternative head configuration for recreating the related DI Adaga, giving builders another display option without requiring a separate kit.
The Impulse Gundam family has received plenty of attention elsewhere in the Cosmic Era lineup, including the recent US re-release of the RG Blast Impulse Gundam Spec II based on Lunamaria Hawke’s upgraded Mobile Suit from SEED Freedom.

Fans looking to revisit where the Impulse itself began can also currently watch Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny for free through Gundam’s official international YouTube channel, alongside the original Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

SEED Destiny Astray R has also produced other Premium Bandai Gunpla, including the RG Gundam Astray Red Dragon, another machine from the same manga that received a new production run earlier in 2026.

Pre-orders for the returning “MG 1/100 DESTINY IMPULSE GUNDAM R (REGENES),” priced at ¥6,160 (approximately $39 / £29), opened through Premium Bandai Japan on November 5, 2026.

Orders are scheduled to ship in February 2027, with no corresponding new pre-order currently listed through Premium Bandai US, though this may change in the near future.
