Bandai Makes Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny Free to Stream Online
Two of the most important entries in Gundam’s Cosmic Era timeline are now much easier to watch, as Bandai has just made both Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny available to stream online for free.
The versions currently being offered are the HD Remasters of both series, giving fans access to the modernized editions with subtitles rather than requiring a paid streaming subscription or physical release.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED originally aired in 2002 and introduced the Cosmic Era setting, following Kira Yamato as war between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT forces him into the cockpit of the Strike Gundam despite his close friendship with ZAFT pilot Athrun Zala.
Its story quickly became one of Gundam’s most popular alternate-universe timelines, combining large-scale military conflict with the increasingly personal rivalry between Kira and Athrun as both characters are pulled deeper into opposing sides of the war.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny continues the story two years later and shifts much of the early focus to Shinn Asuka, a young ZAFT pilot whose experiences during the previous conflict shape his increasingly turbulent role in another escalating war.
Kira, Athrun, Lacus Clyne, and several other returning characters also become central to the sequel, expanding the political and personal conflicts established in SEED while introducing Mobile Suits including the Impulse Gundam, Destiny Gundam, and Strike Freedom Gundam.
Watching the two series together also provides the full story leading into Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, the 2024 theatrical sequel that returned to the Cosmic Era storyline nearly two decades after SEED Destiny concluded.
Both Mobile Suit Gundam SEED HD Remaster and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny HD Remaster can currently be watched through GUNDAM CHANNEL INTL on YouTube, with the official Gundam streaming campaign scheduled to continue until March 31, 2027.
English is among the subtitle languages supported by the official free streaming initiative, making this one of the easiest opportunities yet for international fans to watch the two series from the beginning without paying for a subscription service like Crunchyroll.
