The Apothecary Diaries’ Maomao inspires new limited edition curry spice blend

A new, limited-edition curry spice blend, called “Maomao’s Curry Spice,” has been announced in a collaboration between the popular manga series The Apothecary Diaries and one of Japan’s largest curry festivals.
The Apothecary Diaries is a hit historical mystery series that follows the story of Maomao, a young woman with a deep knowledge of medicinal herbs and poisons.

This new, original spice mix was created under the direct supervision of the original series author, Natsu Hyūga, herself.
The blend is a unique mix of fourteen different spices.

It includes a number of herbs and medicinal plants that are actually featured in the story of the series, such as mugwort, citrus peel, ginger, and cinnamon, as well as a variety of other spices like star anise, fennel, and cloves.
The flavor is described as being both a unique reflection of the character Maomao and a taste that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

The new spice mix has been created by the character goods brand Culcolle to celebrate the “13th Kanda Curry Grand Prix: Grand Prix Final 2025.”
The Kanda Curry Grand Prix is one of Japan’s largest curry-themed food festivals, an annual event held in the Kanda district of Tokyo, an area which is famous for its high concentration of curry restaurants.

The “Maomao’s Curry Spice” mix will be on sale at the event in limited quantities, allowing curry fans to try the medicinal-inspired blend when they return home.
In addition to the sale of the new spice mix, the festival will also feature a photo spot with life-sized, acrylic standees of the two main characters from the series, Maomao and Jinshi.

“Maomao’s Curry Spice” is priced at ¥1,650 (approx. $11 USD/£8 GBP) and can also be ordered directly from the Culcolle official store.
The Kanda Curry Grand Prix 2025 Finals will be held at the Ogawa Square in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
The two-day festival is scheduled for Saturday, the 1st of November, and Sunday, the 2nd of November, 2025.
