The Alters Announces ‘Last Variable’ DLC
Developer 11 bit studios announced on June 6, 2026, that a major expansion for The Alters titled Last Variable is scheduled to launch on July 13, 2026.
This paid downloadable content provides approximately 20 hours of additional gameplay and introduces new mechanics focused on terraforming the planet’s surface into lush biomes.
Players will manage a crew of specialized alters including a Geologist, Biologist, Chemist, and Physicist to uncover the mysteries of the Oasis.
The expansion features an underground base where players can build new components and research modules such as the Cryosleep Chamber to survive the planet’s harsh cycles.
While the protagonist descends into cryosleep to avoid the scorching sun, alters working in Field Labs will continue their assignments and experience the long-term effects of time.
New regions will be available for exploration, though terraforming efforts will trigger defensive planetary mechanisms like earthquakes and radiation waves.
The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer showcased during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase 2026.
The Alters is currently available for players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
