Square Enix has officially opened US pre-orders for a special Chrono Trigger music box, giving American fans an opportunity to own a unique collectible inspired by one of the classic RPG’s most memorable musical themes.

The “CHRONO TRIGGER Music Box – Far Off Promise” recreates Yasunori Mitsuda’s emotional composition through a traditional 18-note mechanical arrangement.

Originally released for the Super Famicom in 1995, Chrono Trigger was developed by a celebrated creative team that included Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, and legendary Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama.

The game follows Crono, a young adventurer who becomes involved in a journey across different periods of history after meeting Marle at the Millennial Fair, eventually joining a group of companions attempting to prevent a devastating future.

Its combination of time-traveling storytelling, multiple endings, and memorable characters helped establish Chrono Trigger as one of the most celebrated RPGs of its generation.

Music has remained an important part of that legacy, with Mitsuda’s original soundtrack featuring compositions such as “Chrono Trigger”, “Corridors of Time”, “Frog’s Theme” and “To Far Away Times”.

“Far Off Promise”, also known as “Crono and Marle – Far Off Promise”, is particularly associated with the relationship between the game’s two protagonists, accompanying some of their most emotional moments throughout the adventure.

The piece originally featured a music-box-like sound, making it particularly well suited to Square Enix’s new collectible, which plays the melody when a small metal crank is turned by hand rather than requiring batteries or an electronic speaker.

Measuring approximately 6 cm wide, 5 cm deep, and 4 cm tall, the music box features a translucent orange acrylic case decorated with illustrations of Crono and Marle, with its transparent construction allowing the internal metal mechanism to remain visible.

The casing is constructed from acrylic resin, with iron and zinc alloy components used for the musical mechanism.

The release follows several other Chrono Trigger collectibles introduced during the game’s recent 30th anniversary celebrations, including a four-record soundtrack vinyl collection released in March 2026.

That collection features 64 compositions from the original game, including “Far Off Promise”, with artwork by Akira Toriyama and a special message from Mitsuda included in the packaging.

Square Enix has also recently opened US pre-orders for new Crono and Marle Formism figures, recreating the two protagonists as matching 17 cm statues inspired by the game’s original artwork.

The music box was originally released through Square Enix’s Japanese online store on October 10, 2026, priced at ¥2,750, following its earlier appearance among merchandise created for the game’s anniversary orchestra concerts.

US pre-orders for the “CHRONO TRIGGER Music Box – Far Off Promise” are now officially open through the Square Enix North American Store, priced at $29.99, with release and shipping currently scheduled for December 2026.
