Madoka Magica Reveals New Official Model Kit Based on Homura’s Movie Redesign
Image by James RichardsonBandai has fully revealed a new Puella Magi Madoka Magica model kit recreating Homura Akemi’s redesigned magical girl outfit from Walpurgisnacht Rising.
The “30MP Homura Akemi (Walpurgisnacht: Rising Ver.)” is part of Bandai’s 30 MINUTES PREFERENCE line, which adapts characters from established anime and game franchises into articulated plastic model kits using extensive color separation to reduce the amount of painting needed after assembly.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising continued directly from the dramatically altered world Homura created at the end of 2013’s Rebellion, returning to her complicated relationship with Madoka almost 13 years after the previous movie.

The sequel opened in Japanese cinemas in August, while Aniplex of America has already confirmed a limited North American theatrical run for January 2027.

Homura’s new kit uses eight runners to recreate the layered black, purple and white design of her Walpurgisnacht Rising costume with most of its colors already separated into individual parts.

That includes the diamond pattern running across her black tights, which Bandai has recreated through separately molded pieces rather than relying entirely on decals or additional paint.

The gems positioned on Homura’s chest and left hand receive similarly detailed treatment through insert molding, combining gold and black surrounds with translucent purple centers within the finished parts.

Her long black hair is divided across multiple articulated sections, allowing it to be repositioned around different poses without turning the entire rear section into a single fixed piece.

The kit includes two tampo-printed interchangeable expressions alongside four blank face plates that can be customized using the included water-slide decals.

Additional interchangeable hands provide further posing options, keeping the focus on Homura’s appearance and expressions from the new movie rather than loading the kit with unrelated accessories.

The finished build places particular emphasis on the contrast between the darker sections of Homura’s costume and its purple detailing, with the color-separated tights and translucent gems helping reproduce details that could otherwise have required considerably more painting.

Homura has also been receiving renewed merchandise attention around Walpurgisnacht Rising, including a new official smartwatch collection that gives her a costume-inspired strap and uses her Dark Orb from Rebellion for its notification animation.

Bandai is releasing Homura alongside the matching “30MP Madoka Kaname (Walpurgisnacht: Rising Ver.)” model kit, which recreates Madoka’s own redesigned magical girl outfit with its layered pink skirt, rebuilt hairstyle and seated Kyubey accessory.
