Studio Ghibli Brings Back My Neighbor Totoro’s Official Catbus Sleeping Bag Just in Time for Winter
Image by James RichardsonStudio Ghibli has officially restocked a huge My Neighbor Totoro kids sleeping bag that lets children climb inside the movie’s famous Catbus for bedtime.
The “My Neighbor Totoro Dream Journey Catbus Sleeping Bag” recreates the enormous feline transport as a soft sleeping bag measuring approximately 192 x 138 cm when its ears and hands are included.

Released in 1988 and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, My Neighbor Totoro follows sisters Satsuki and Mei after moving with their father to the Japanese countryside while their mother recovers in hospital.

The sisters gradually discover a group of mysterious forest spirits living around their new home, with their encounters eventually introducing them to both the enormous Totoro and the equally unusual Catbus.

Catbus is a gigantic twelve-legged creature with a hollow passenger compartment running through its body, combining the appearance of a cat with many of the familiar features of a bus.

Its most memorable appearance comes late in the movie when Totoro summons Catbus to help Satsuki search for the missing Mei, before the creature carries both sisters to the hospital where their mother is recovering.
That long body makes Catbus particularly well suited to the returning sleeping bag, which uses the character’s stomach as the main sleeping area and opens with a zipper so a child can fit completely inside.

A small pillow measuring approximately 28 x 39 cm is included with the Catbus sleeping bag, allowing the two pieces to be used together as a matching set.

Lightweight microfiber fabric is used to provide a warm and comfortable feel, with polyester making up most of the outer fabric and filling.

Studio Ghibli has also brought back the “My Neighbor Totoro Dreamy Sleeping Bag,” which applies the same idea to Big Totoro and measures approximately 122 x 140 cm when his ears and arms are included.

That version includes its own matching Totoro pillow and lets children climb through a zipper across the character’s large stomach in much the same way as the Catbus design.

Catbus has become one of My Neighbor Totoro’s most recognizable characters and regularly appears across Studio Ghibli merchandise ranging from plush toys and household accessories to much larger display pieces.
One of the biggest examples is the Catbus “Mi~tsuketa!” statue, which Studio Ghibli brought back in 2025 after the detailed display piece had previously sold out.

Several older Totoro home accessories have also returned recently, including the ocarina-playing Totoro humidifier that sends mist directly from the instrument as Big Totoro sits above a fallen log.

The “My Neighbor Totoro Dream Journey Catbus Sleeping Bag” is priced at ¥19,800 (approximately $125 / £95) and is now available again through Studio Ghibli’s official Donguri Kyowakoku online store following its latest restock.

Donguri Kyowakoku does not offer international shipping, so fans in the US and other countries wanting to purchase the sleeping bag will need to use a third-party proxy or forwarding service that provides a Japanese delivery address before arranging onward shipping to their home address.
Official Studio Ghibli merchandise has become easier to access in the US during 2026, however, thanks to the opening of Donguri Republic’s first American pop-up store in the Los Angeles area.
