Pokémon Reveals Mini Game Boy Music Player for 30th Anniversary

The Pokémon Company has officially unveiled a nostalgic new piece of hardware to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise.
The “Pokémon GAME MUSIC COLLECTION” is a miniature device that recreates the look and feel of the original handheld console used to play the first games.

This specialized player is designed to resemble the classic Game Boy system at approximately one-third of its actual physical size.

It includes authentic details such as functional buttons, accurate engravings, and a speaker that replicates the specific sound quality of the 1996 releases.

Fans can enjoy a total of 45 different tracks from the original versions of the video game series.

The Japanese release will feature Pokémon Red and Green theming, while outside Japan, it will be based on Pokémon Red and Blue.

Each track is included on its own cartridge, featuring a unique scene from the games that will appear “on screen” when inserted in the player.

The device serves as both a high-quality music player and a miniature display piece for enthusiasts of the early 8-bit era.

Its compact dimensions allow it to be easily carried or displayed alongside other commemorative items from the series history.

Each button and decorative element has been carefully crafted to mirror the aesthetic of the hardware that started the global phenomenon.

In other 30th-anniversary related news, the official Pokémon Center has announced three new ranges of merchandise.

Fans can check out the new “Pokémon Timeless Adventure” stationery line, which focuses on the Kanto region and features exclusive artwork of Pikachu and the classic starter creatures peering at a Pokédex in a laboratory.

The retro-styled “Pikachu of Beginnings” plushies perfectly replicate the vintage, chubby aesthetic of the iconic mascot from the original 1996 video games.

Those looking for a sparkling commemorative item can grab the “30th Anniversary Pika Pika! Pikachu” plushies, featuring high-quality velour treated with a delicate glitter finish and a celebratory birthday ribbon.

Fans visiting Tokyo can also look forward to the “Pokémon Card Game TOKYO LUMINOUS NIGHT Celebrating 30 Years” event, a massive projection mapping light show set to take place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building that will showcase dynamic representations of nostalgic classic cards.

Travelers flying around the globe can even take to the skies with ANA on three newly announced aircraft designs as part of the “Pokémon Jet” project, featuring Red, Green, and Blue themes.

Sports enthusiasts can also celebrate at various stadiums in Japan through the “Professional Baseball 12 Teams x Pokémon 30th Anniversary Special Project”, featuring exclusive apparel and special Pokémon GO raid events.

The price for the “Pokémon GAME MUSIC COLLECTION” is set at 9,900 yen (approx. $66 USD / £52 GBP).

The official release process begins on February 28, 2026, through a series of lottery stages.

The Pokémon Center Online will accept lottery applications starting from 10:00 AM (JST) on February 28 until 4:59 PM (JST) on March 4, 2026.

The Pokémon Center Online may offer additional lottery rounds or general sales at a later date.

The “Pokémon GAME MUSIC COLLECTION” will be released in the US, the UK, and Canada via the international Pokémon Center webstore, priced at $69.99 USD and £59.99 GBP.

The Nintendo Store will also host a lottery period beginning in the afternoon of March 2 and closing at 11:59 AM on March 9, 2026.
