Perfect Grade Gundam SEED Astray model kit to be re-released
Gunpla enthusiasts and collectors will have another opportunity to acquire a highly sought-after model kit.
The Perfect Grade (PG) 1/60 Gundam Astray Blue Frame kit had gone out of production, but will now be re-released.
The Gundam Astray Blue Frame is a mobile suit featured in the popular “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray” manga series.
This manga was a spin-off story set in the Cosmic Era timeline established by the “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED” anime.
The Blue Frame is piloted by Gai Murakumo, a skilled and resourceful mercenary operating as part of the Serpent Tail mercenary group.
Unlike the mass-produced or Alliance-developed mobile suits, the Astray units were prototypes salvaged from the Orb Union, allowing for extensive customization.
The Blue Frame stands out for its versatility and its pilot’s ingenuity in adapting its loadout for various combat situations, making it a fan favorite for its unique aesthetic and operational flexibility.
As a “Perfect Grade” (PG) Gunpla, this kit represents the pinnacle of Bandai’s model engineering.
Perfect Grade kits are known for their large 1/60 scale, which translates to a completed model typically around 30 centimeters (12 inches) in height, resulting in an impressive presence.
The hallmark of the PG line is its intricate internal mechanical detail, often featuring a movable endoskeleton that allows for a wide range of dynamic and flexible poses.
The design incorporates advanced articulation, with interlocking armor and frame components that mimic the complex movements of a human body, enabling realistic and powerful stances.
A highlight of the PG Gundam Astray Blue Frame kit is its weaponry, particularly the substantial M68 Cattus 500mm recoilless rifle.
This large-scale weapon is faithfully reproduced with features including an adjustable trigger position, an extendable barrel, and a detachable missile rack, allowing for different configurations and dynamic posing with the mobile suit.
In addition to the recoilless rifle, the kit also comes equipped with a standard beam rifle, beam sabers, and a shield, providing a comprehensive arsenal for display.
The kit includes a comprehensive set of decals, notably Gai Murakumo’s personal insignia and various caution marks, allowing builders to achieve a highly detailed and authentic finish.
Two figures of Gai Murakumo are provided: one standing, and one seated to fit within the cockpit, adding to the diorama possibilities.
The decision by Premium Bandai to re-release the PG 1/60 Gundam Astray Blue Frame caters to the persistent demand from Gunpla collectors who may have missed its initial release or are new to the hobby.
Premium Bandai, Bandai’s official online store for exclusive and limited-edition merchandise, is now accepting pre-orders for the resale of the Perfect Grade (PG) 1/60 Gundam Astray Blue Frame.
This re-issue of the impressive model kit is priced at 19,800 yen (approx. $137 USD / £100 GBP) and is scheduled to ship to customers in August 2025.
