New Wandering Witch Anime Movie Confirmed
The immensely popular Wandering Witch – The Journey of Elaina (Majo no Tabitabi) light novel series, penned by author Jougi Shiraishi, is set to inspire a brand-new anime film.
The announcement was made during the recent GA Fes 2026 event, generating significant excitement among fans of the franchise who are eager to see the wandering witch return to the screen.
Kaede Hondo, the actress who voiced the title character Elaina in the previous television series, has already participated in the project, returning to record new dialogue for an initial teaser.
To commemorate the news of the film adaptation, Azure, the original character designer for the series, created a stunning new illustration.
The source material, the Wandering Witch – The Journey of Elaina light novel series, has a strong foundation, with SB Creative publishing the very first volume in April 2016.
The books have achieved global recognition, with Yen Press currently publishing the entire light novel series for English-speaking audiences.
Fans have previously followed the witch’s adventures through other successful adaptations.
The light novels originally inspired a television anime series, which first premiered in October 2020.
That adaptation was streamed internationally by Funimation as it aired in Japan, and an English dub began streaming shortly after in December 2020.
In addition to the anime, Nanao launched a manga adaptation on Square Enix’s Manga UP! app in November 2018.
This manga concluded after a successful run, with the sixth and final collected volume shipping recently.
Square Enix Manga & Books licensed the manga series, which is also available on Manga UP!’s global app and site.
The core story focuses on Elaina, a young witch who has always dreamed of a life of travel, inspired by her childhood idol, the witch Nique.
Now a certified witch, Elaina embarks on a journey without a set destination, roaming the world to witness all it has to offer.
This captivating narrative is described as a gentle and beguiling tale, where every new place she encounters and every person she meets enriches her world a little bit more.
