New Tamagotchi ring Set to Turn Virtual Pets Into Functional Fashion Accessories

Bandai is celebrating Tamagotchi’s 30th anniversary by shrinking the virtual pet into an entirely new form, creating the first version of the device designed to be worn directly on your finger.

The newly announced “Tamagotchi ring” is being promoted as the world’s smallest Tamagotchi device, turning the familiar digital pet into a wearable accessory.

Tamagotchi originally launched in Japan in November 1996 and built its identity around the idea of carrying a virtual creature with you throughout the day, with players responsible for feeding, cleaning and raising their tiny companion.

The hardware has continually changed alongside that basic concept, moving from the original ball-chain devices to later color-screen models and eventually wearable products such as the wristwatch-style Tamagotchi Smart released for the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Tamagotchi ring takes that wearable idea considerably further for the 30th anniversary, measuring approximately 2.8 cm tall by 2.3 cm wide and coming in at only around 56 percent of the height of the original 1996 device.

Despite that size, Bandai has managed to fit a 0.56-inch color LCD into the ring, making it the smallest display used by a color-screen Tamagotchi to date.

The device retains familiar care mechanics including feeding your Tamagotchi and cleaning up after it, alongside mini-games and the ability to change the appearance of its room.

A total of 30 Tamagotchi characters drawn from across the franchise’s history can be raised, reflecting the 30th anniversary while giving longtime fans creatures from several different generations to rediscover.

The selection includes characters associated with the original 1996 era such as Mametchi and Kuchipatchi, later Connection-era favorites including Memetchi and Furawatchi, and color-generation characters such as Lovelitchi and Melodytchi.

How you care for the character can also lead to secret evolutions, retaining the element of experimentation that has been part of Tamagotchi since its earliest versions.

Bandai says the miniaturized hardware took around two years to develop, with the company reducing the device to only 64 individual components compared with 116 in the more recent Tamagotchi Paradise.

Its charging system was also redesigned specifically for the smaller body, including a new internal structure and shortened USB protection circuitry to free up additional space inside.

Instead of plugging a cable directly into the ring while it is being worn or displayed, each version comes with its own matching charging case that doubles as a small presentation stand.

The familiar egg-shaped appearance and three-button visual layout remain part of the design, although the actual controls have been repositioned to the sides to make the tiny wearable format practical.

An included spacer provides two different fit settings, allowing the ring itself to accommodate different finger sizes rather than being produced as a single fixed-size accessory.

Three color combinations will be available, beginning with “Pink & Pearl White,” which uses an aurora pearl treatment around the frame for a softer reflective finish.

“Light Blue & Metallic Gold” pairs a pale blue body with gold-plated detailing, while “Black & Metallic Silver” uses a darker base with silver-plated elements for a more understated alternative.

Each color also receives a coordinated charger, allowing the complete set to remain visually matched when the Tamagotchi is not being worn.

The ring is the 39th main Tamagotchi device and arrives during a particularly significant year for the franchise, which is marking three decades since the original virtual pet became one of Bandai’s defining toy releases.

Bandai has confirmed all three versions of “Tamagotchi ring” will be priced at ¥7,700 each (approx. $48 USD / £36 GBP), with pre-orders available exclusively through Premium Bandai Japan from August 27 through October 6.

Shipping is scheduled to begin in February 2027, with Bandai not yet confirming when fans outside of Japan can expect a broader international release through outlets such as Premium Bandai US.
