New hololive game helps you learn a traditional Japanese card game with the help of VTubers

A new game has launched that combines hololive’s popular VTubers with the traditional Japanese card game, Hanafuda.
Hanafuda are traditional Japanese playing cards, known for their beautiful illustrations of flowers and plants that represent the twelve months of the year, with a history stretching back centuries.

This new game allows players to enjoy classic Hanafuda games using a deck where the cards are decorated with the various members of hololive, blending a classic pastime with modern pop culture.
The game includes rules for several popular Hanafuda variations, such as “Koi-Koi,” “Oicho-Kabu,” and “Hana-awase.”

It also features a brand-new, original ruleset called “holo-awase.”
In addition to standard gameplay, an adventure mode is included, which allows players to enjoy stories featuring the hololive members.

The game supports online, cross-platform multiplayer, allowing friends to play against each other regardless of their chosen system.
A unique crafting system is also part of the experience, where players can use points earned from card battles to create “Handmade Bento” boxes, which can then be traded with other players.

To help those who have never played before, the game includes a variety of assist functions for beginners.
The first wave of downloadable content has also been announced, which will add the hololive talents Subaru Oozora and Okayu Nekomata to the game.

This DLC will include the two as playable characters, along with a new story scenario, new costumes, and new background music.
Holo’s Hanafuda is available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
The digital version is priced at 3,850 yen (approx. $26 USD/£19 GBP), with a physical standard edition for the Switch available for 5,280 yen (approx. $36 USD/£27 GBP), and a special limited edition for 16,500 yen (approx. $111 USD/£83 GBP).

The first DLC pack is scheduled to be released on the 21st of August, 2025.
