My Melody & Kuromi’s Netflix series gets a release date as theme song by LE SSERAFIM revealed

Sanrio has announced that “My Melody & Kuromi” will begin streaming globally on Netflix next month.
This highly anticipated stop-motion animation project comes at a time when both characters are celebrating significant milestones, with this year marking My Melody’s 50th anniversary and Kuromi’s 20th anniversary.

Alongside the release date, an official trailer, key art, and details about the theme song have also been revealed by Sanrio.
My Melody is a cheerful white rabbit known for her pink hood who first debuted in 1975 and quickly became a popular Sanrio character.

The mischievous black rabbit Kuromi is My Melody’s rival and was introduced in 2005.

Their humorous interplay has been a staple of Sanrio’s multimedia ventures, including the popular Onegai My Melody anime series.
The decision to produce a stop-motion series for Netflix is part of Sanrio’s continued efforts to expand its characters’ global reach and appeal to new audiences.
The new trailer offers a glimpse into the cute and adorable world that fans will be transported to by the series.

It showcases My Melody happily baking a cake while surrounded by adoring customers as the jealous Kuromi runs a neighboring sweet shop.
The trailer also teases a sudden crisis befalling Mariland, the land where the characters reside and hints at the adventures and challenges the duo will face.

The series’ theme song has been confirmed as “Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino)” and is performed by the five-member K-Pop girl group LE SSERAFIM and produced by acclaimed Japanese artist Gen Hoshino.
LE SSERAFIM’s involvement was reportedly due to their reputation for inspiring both comfort and courage, qualities that Sanrio have centered the series around.

The members themselves are known fans of My Melody and Kuromi, frequently incorporating matching merchandise into their personal styling.
Gen Hoshino, a versatile artist known for his work as a singer, songwriter, and actor, took on the roles of producer, composer, arranger, and lyricist for “Kawaii”.
Hoshino crafted the song to reflect the unique world of “My Melody & Kuromi” while also embodying LE SSERAFIM’s distinctive style.

The song is described as not only expressing the inherent cuteness of the characters but also conveying a deeper message about “the importance and brilliance of believing in yourself and moving forward”, a core theme woven throughout the stories in episodes of “My Melody & Kuromi”.

The combination two of Sanrio’s most popular characters, a unique animation style, and a high-profile musical collaboration sets a strong foundation for the “My Melody & Kuromi” Netflix series.
Fans around the world can now mark their calendars for July 24th when the series will launch on Netflix.
