Miffy-themed area coming to Japan’s Dutch-themed amusement park
Nagasaki’s Dutch-themed amusement park, Huis Ten Bosch, has announced the opening of a new area based on the iconic character Miffy.
The new dedicated Miffy-themed area has officially been named as “Miffy Wonder Square” and the resort has confirmed that the grand opening of this enchanting new section will take place on Saturday, June 21st, 2025.
June 21st also marks the birthday of “Miffy”, the popular character from one of the Netherlands’ most celebrated series of picture books, and the year 2025 holds particular significance as it is the 70th anniversary of Miffy’s creation.
Huis Ten Bosch recently convened a press conference to unveil the comprehensive details of its unique and highly anticipated Miffy-themed area.
During the press conference, Mr. Kotaro Takamura, the Representative Director, President, and CEO of Huis Ten Bosch, announced that the development of “Miffy Wonder Square” represents the largest single investment project undertaken by the resort since the initial establishment of its hotel facilities, underscoring its strategic importance as the initial step in the resort’s ongoing and ambitious growth strategy.
At the press conference, attendees were treated to the premiere of a video presentation that vividly evoked the immersive world awaiting visitors at “Miffy Wonder Square”, providing an exciting preview of the various attractions, charming shops, delightful restaurants, and other features that will be in the new area.
It was also announced that an additional, brand-new attraction is planned to be introduced within “Miffy Wonder Square” in the autumn of 2025, promising further enhancements to the visitor experience.
Based on the heartwarming concept of “A holiday that Miffy and her friends dream of”, the park will have two engaging ride-type attractions that will allow visitors to actively experience being a central character within the story alongside Miffy and her companions.
“Miffy Wonder Square” will proudly feature Japan’s first permanent greeting facility dedicated to Miffy, providing unique opportunities for memorable interactions and photographs.
Complementing these attractions will be a variety of food and beverage outlets and retail shops that will exude an abundance of “kawaii” (cuteness) from their overall ambiance right down to the meticulously crafted details of their menus and merchandise.
Adding to the excitement, in the autumn of 2025, an indoor walk-through attraction is scheduled to open, offering visitors a truly immersive experience within the beloved world of Miffy’s picture books and illustrations, which have collectively achieved remarkable global sales figures exceeding 85 million copies.
Upon stepping into “Miffy Wonder Square,” visitors will be transported into a charming European-inspired setting where Miffy and her friends are depicted as enjoying a delightful holiday.
Surrounded by streets vibrantly decorated in the signature color palette of Dick Bruna on all sides, guests will find themselves inspired by new and exciting adventures that they may have previously only encountered within the pages of picture books and animated series, promising an engaging and memorable experience unlike any other.

Attraction – ‘Uncle Pilot’s Flight Adventure’
This engaging ride attraction will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the animated series where Miffy joyfully takes to the skies in an airplane piloted by her Uncle.
Guests will have the opportunity to board a red airplane, identical to the one featured in the animation, and embark on an immersive aerial adventure alongside Miffy and her friends, all while enjoying scenic views of the European-style cityscape that defines Huis Ten Bosch.
Attraction – ‘Miffy & Friends Yacht Sailing’
This charming yacht-shaped ride attraction is inspired by the delightful world depicted in the animated film “Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small ‘Miffy and the toy boat'” (based on the original ideas of Dick Bruna and produced by Blue Zoo Animation Studios).
Visitors can anticipate an exciting sailing experience aboard a yacht, sharing the adventure with Miffy and her endearing group of friends.
Photo Spot – ‘Greeting Gallery’
This unique facility marks Japan’s first permanent greeting space where visitors can enjoy special meet-and-greet opportunities and capture memorable photo moments with Miffy herself.
The building housing this gallery is thoughtfully modeled after an art gallery that might be found on a quaint European street corner, ensuring a charming and authentic atmosphere.

Food – ‘Everyday Celebration Kitchen’
This spacious restaurant provides a delightful setting where guests can celebrate their special day alongside Miffy and her friends.

A selection of gourmet food and delightful sweets, all creatively inspired by the theme of celebrations, will contribute to an unforgettable dining experience.

One highlight is the “Miffy Dream Omelet Rice”, inspired by the whimsical image of Miffy and Melanie joyfully playing in the sky atop a fluffy cloud-like egg, presented as a hearty omelet rice dish generously topped with savory meat.
The “Miffy Celebration Cake” is charmingly decorated with pastel-colored balloons and can be conveniently taken away in an original, specially designed cake box.
Food – ‘Holiday Picnic Café’
This inviting takeaway café is inspired by the heartwarming image of Miffy enjoying a pleasant picnic on a relaxing weekend.
The sandwiches offered, presented in an original and charming box, will come in two delicious varieties: the local Nagasaki Sasebo specialty lemon steak style and a classic egg salad option.
In addition, guests can enjoy delightful crepes inspired by vibrant bouquets of flowers, a perfect complement to the flower-filled landscape of Huis Ten Bosch, where blooms grace every season.
Visitors can look forward to experiencing a lovely picnic with Miffy on the cafe’s terrace, surrounded by beautiful flowers and lush greenery.
Shop – ‘My Miffy Boutique’
This carefully curated select shop will offer a wide array of fashionable items that embody the charming world of Miffy.
The interior of the store, designed to resemble a stylish boutique, will provide a delightful setting for visitors to discover their own special Miffy-themed treasure.
A series of thoughtfully selected new products will also be released, including wearable items and stylish tote bags that are exclusive to Huis Ten Bosch.

This engaging walk-through attraction will offer a truly immersive experience within the enchanting world of Miffy’s dream picture book, creating the sensation of stepping directly into and turning the pages of the beloved story.
The space within the attraction will meticulously recreate the familiar scenes and charming illustrations found in Miffy’s picture books, allowing visitors to experience riding in a hot air balloon alongside Miffy and her friends, playfully interacting with a snowy landscape, and encountering the various endearing animals from the world of the picture books.
Adding a unique touch, visitors will also have the opportunity to compile all the photographs they take within the facility into a personalized picture book-style photo book, providing a one-of-a-kind keepsake to preserve their cherished memories of “Miffy Wonder Square”.
