Hideo Kojima produced Death Stranding anime series coming to Disney+ in 2027

A new anime series set in the post-apocalyptic world of Death Stranding has been officially announced.
The new series has a working title of “DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS” and the announcement was made at the “Disney+ Original Preview 2025” event held in Hong Kong on November 13, which also confirmed a 2027 release.
Death Stranding, created by the world-renowned game creator Hideo Kojima, was first released in 2019.
The open-world game follows porter Sam Porter Bridges as he reconnects a fractured society after a supernatural event, and it has become a massive hit with over 20 million players worldwide.

This new anime will be a completely original story set during the same time as the game.
While Sam is on his mission to cross North America, “ISOLATIONS” will follow other, unnamed individuals, referred to as “someones” as they also try to overcome loneliness.
The new story will focus on a diverse cast of characters, including an old man seeking salvation through different means, a female warrior trying to start a world of constant fighting, a boy with a grudge against Bridges, and a girl who embraces her loneliness.

The series will depict their converging fates on the brink of extinction.
The game’s creator, Hideo Kojima, will serve as Executive Producer for the series.
Animation will be handled by E&H production, the studio known for recent projects like NINJA KAMUI.
The director will be Takayuki Sano (episode animation director for Attack on Titan The Final Season), with original character designs by Ilya Kuvshinov (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045).
This new Disney+ series is one of three separate adaptations of the game currently in development.
It is a different project from the previously announced animated feature film, “DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO”, which is a Hollywood co-production directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto and written by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners).

A third project, a live-action film adaptation, is also in the works from Hammerstone Studios and Square Peg, with Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One) attached to write and direct.
“DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS” is scheduled to be released in 2027 and will be streamed exclusively on Disney+.
