STRICT-G has revealed a new Shizuoka-exclusive collection that connects Char Aznable’s famous Red Comet identity with Red Fuji, one of the most recognizable images associated with Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.

The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise began with the original 1979 anime and has since grown across television, movies, manga, games and model kits, combining large-scale mobile suit battles with stories shaped by war, politics and personal conflict.

Char Aznable emerged as one of the original series’ defining figures, earning the nickname the Red Comet through his exceptional speed in battle and his preference for distinctive red mobile suits.

The artwork at the center of this collection references the Hokusai woodblock print commonly known as Red Fuji, which depicts Mount Fuji glowing in a deep reddish shade beneath a clear sky.

Part of Hokusai’s celebrated Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji series, the print turns Japan’s most famous mountain into a bold block of red, making it a natural match for a Gundam character whose name and visual identity have remained closely tied to the same color for decades.

STRICT-G JAPAN brings these two ideas together through energetic ink-brush artwork that places Char in front of the red mountain, creating a direct visual link between Hokusai’s Red Fuji and Gundam’s Red Comet.

The STRICT-G JAPAN Mobile Suit Gundam Shizuoka Exclusive Red Fuji Char T-shirt, priced at ¥6,600 (approx. $40 USD / £30 GBP), features the complete design against a black background and is made from 100% cotton.

Rather than simply placing Char beside a Shizuoka landmark, the artwork uses the shared red imagery to connect one of Japan’s best-known ukiyo-e subjects with one of anime’s most recognizable rivals.

The STRICT-G JAPAN Mobile Suit Gundam Shizuoka Exclusive Red Fuji Char Acrylic Charm, priced at ¥880 (approx. $5 USD / £4 GBP), carries the same artwork within a shape inspired by a traditional Japanese folding fan.
