Final Fantasy’s Nostalgic New Mini CRT TV Collection Features Classic Game Music and Pixel Art
Image by James RichardsonSquare Enix is turning six classic Final Fantasy games into miniature retro televisions, combining recognizable pixel-art scenes with some of the most memorable music from the series’ early history.
The new “-FINAL FANTASY Series- Mini Melody TV” range recreates an old-fashioned CRT television as a small battery-powered toy, with separate versions dedicated to Final Fantasy I through Final Fantasy VI.
Switching the TV on activates an LED behind the screen and begins playing its selected piece of music, effectively turning each model into a small animated-style display for a specific moment from the series.
All six games originally appeared during the Famicom and Super Famicom eras between 1987 and 1994, establishing many of the characters, creatures, visual ideas and musical traditions that continue to define Final Fantasy today.
Their original pixel graphics also make them particularly well suited to the Mini Melody TV concept, with each version using an illuminated screen to recreate a scene from its respective game while playing an accompanying melody.
Let’s take a look at the six different Mini Melody TVs that make up the initial lineup!
- “-FINAL FANTASY- Mini Melody TV ‘Opening Theme'” recreates the first game in the series alongside its famous opening music.
- “-FINAL FANTASY II- Mini Melody TV ‘Rebel Army Theme'” features Final Fantasy II, with its screen showing the scene in which the party learns the Wild Rose password used by the rebellion.
- “-FINAL FANTASY III- Mini Melody TV ‘Eternal Wind'” pairs the third game with one of its most recognizable overworld themes.
- “-FINAL FANTASY IV- Mini Melody TV ‘The Red Wings'” shows the Red Wings airship fleet in flight while playing the theme associated with Baron’s powerful military force.
- “-FINAL FANTASY V- Mini Melody TV ‘Battle at the Big Bridge'” uses Gilgamesh’s famous battle theme, which has gone on to appear in numerous later Final Fantasy games and spin-offs.
- “-FINAL FANTASY VI- Mini Melody TV ‘Searching for Friends'” represents the sixth game with the piece heard while exploring the World of Ruin aboard the Falcon.
Each television measures around 6.2 cm wide and 5.3 cm tall, keeping the designs small enough to arrange several together while still leaving enough room for the pixel-art display and CRT-inspired controls.
The housings also differ between games, giving the six TVs slightly different colors and appearances rather than repeating exactly the same outer design for every entry.
A single AAA alkaline battery powers each Mini Melody TV, although batteries are not included.
Square Enix is selling the range as blind-box products, meaning individual purchases contain one randomly selected version from the six available designs.
A six-unit box will also be available, although Square Enix specifically warns that purchasing a complete box does not guarantee receiving all six different Final Fantasy versions.
Individual “-FINAL FANTASY Series- Mini Melody TV” boxes are priced at ¥1,980 each (approx. $12 USD / £9 GBP), while a six-piece box costs ¥11,880 (approx. $74 USD / £55 GBP).
The complete series is scheduled for release on January 29, 2027, with pre-orders already open through the official Square Enix e-STORE in Japan.
