Fashion label MAISON SPECIAL releases Evangelion-inspired collection
The Japanese fashion label MAISON SPECIAL is launching a new collection based on the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
This collaboration reinterprets the influential anime through the brand’s signature design approach.
MAISON SPECIAL is known for its contemporary approach to fashion and for producing distinctive designs.
In addition to the Evangelion series, they have also recently collaborated with Sanrio’s popular character Hello Kitty.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a popular significant Japanese anime franchise created by Hideaki Anno which first aired as an anime series before expanding into several feature films and spin-offs.
The new MAISON SPECIAL collection moves beyond simple screen-printing, a common method for licensed apparel.
It utilizes intricate knit jacquard techniques to weave iconic scenes and characters from the series directly into the fabric of several short-sleeve sweaters.
This method allows for a detailed, textured representation of the source material integrated into the garment itself.
Three different knit designs will be offered, each depicting a key moment from the series.
Additionally, the collaboration includes four T-shirt designs featuring original, hand-drawn illustrations.
These new illustrations are based on various elements from the Evangelion series.
This includes Rei Ayanami and the giant biomechanical EVA Units 00, 01, and 02 as well as the penguin Pen Pen and the enigmatic being known as Lilith.
Each of the new T-shirt designs will be available on either a white/cream or black/grey colored shirt.
By creating new art and employing complex knitting, the brand aims to produce items that fuse anime culture with a fashion-forward sensibility.
The result is a collection that filters the complex themes of Evangelion through a unique stylistic lens.
Pre-orders for the collection are currently being accepted on the MAISON SPECIAL official online store.
The T-shirt series is scheduled for a general release at all MAISON SPECIAL MENS stores from noon on June 28th.
The short-sleeve knitwear series will become available at all MAISON SPECIAL MENS stores at noon on July 12th.
