FamilyMart is giving one of Japan’s most iconic convenience store foods a fresh new look as the retailer celebrates two major milestones with an updated Famichiki package and redesigned hot snack displays across its stores.

FamilyMart is one of Japan’s largest convenience store chains, while Famichiki has become its signature hot snack since launching in 2006, earning a loyal following thanks to its crispy coating, juicy boneless chicken and widespread popularity with both local customers and international visitors.

The redesign forms part of FamilyMart’s 45th anniversary celebrations, which officially take place in September 2026, while also marking the 20th anniversary of Famichiki.

As part of the company’s ongoing “Next FamilyMart Project,” the refreshed packaging was created under the direction of FamilyMart Creative Director NIGO®, who aimed to modernize the familiar design without losing the details that have made the iconic bag instantly recognizable over the years.

Rather than completely reinventing the packaging, the new look builds on the classic Famichiki bag by preserving its familiar identity while updating it to better suit today’s lifestyles.

The refreshed design marks the first major overhaul of the famous Famichiki hot snack bag in nine years.

FamilyMart is also updating the hot snack display cases found beside store registers, introducing a bold new red-and-yellow striped design intended to make the fried food section feel brighter, friendlier and even more eye-catching.

The company hopes the refreshed displays will encourage even more customers to enjoy Famichiki alongside its wider selection of hot snacks and prepared foods.

Famichiki remains FamilyMart’s best-selling hot snack and surpassed a remarkable 2.6 billion servings sold in May 2026, cementing its status as one of Japan’s most successful convenience store foods.

The boneless fried chicken has become especially popular in recent years not only with customers across Japan but also with the growing number of overseas visitors exploring the country’s convenience store culture.

FamilyMart says the redesign reflects its continued commitment to discovering “the most wonderful things” for customers while embracing its anniversary slogan of taking on “the biggest challenge” as it approaches its 45th year in business.

Famichiki is priced at ¥248 (approx. $1.70 USD / £1.25 GBP) and is available at FamilyMart stores nationwide, although pricing, availability, and product specifications may vary by region.

The redesigned Famichiki packaging and newly updated hot snack display cases will begin rolling out across FamilyMart locations from July 14, 2026.
