Evangelion Meets Military Fashion for New Official Unit-01, Unit-02 and Mark.06 Flight Jacket Collab Collection
Image by James RichardsonMilitary fashion brand AVIREX has teamed up with Evangelion for a new collection of MA-1 jackets created as part of RADIO EVA’s ongoing 30th anniversary project.
AVIREX traces its roots back to 1975, when the brand began producing flight jackets for the US military, with its military-inspired clothing later becoming closely associated with films including Top Gun.

That history makes the collaboration a strong match for Evangelion, where pilot suits, military organizations and heavily technical equipment have played a major role in the series since its debut.

The partnership also brings AVIREX together with RADIO EVA, the official Evangelion fashion project that has been creating clothing and lifestyle products based around the series since 2008.

RADIO EVA’s approach has traditionally focused on bringing elements of Evangelion into clothing that can be worn outside of more obvious character merchandise, with the wider “THE 30” project extending that idea through collaborations celebrating three decades since the original anime first aired in 1995.

One of the project’s earlier releases saw RADIO EVA work with JAM HOME MADE on a premium Unit-01-inspired leather jacket, while Evangelion’s wider anniversary fashion lineup has also included a HARE collection featuring pieces such as a reversible blouson lined with episode titles from the original TV series.

AVIREX’s new “EVANGELION MA-1 REMODEL by AVIREX” takes the brand’s existing MA-1 REMODEL MARK II as its base, with three versions inspired by Evangelion Unit-01, Unit-02 and Mark.06.

The black version draws from Unit-01, the red model is based on Unit-02, while the navy jacket takes its colors and detailing from Mark.06.

Rather than simply changing the main fabric color, AVIREX and RADIO EVA have worked details from each EVA into the jackets through their linings, reflective tape and military-style graphics.

Stencil prints across the design lean into AVIREX’s military roots, while rescue-inspired details help connect the Evangelion elements with the look of a traditional flight jacket.

A large cowhide patch is fitted to the hood, which can also be removed entirely to give the jacket a more conventional MA-1 shape without losing the rest of the collaboration detailing.

The jackets use a nylon outer shell with polyester lining and padding, alongside leather and ribbed sections, while the heavier construction gives them more of the feel of functional outerwear than a lightweight anime fashion piece.

The collaboration joins a series of Evangelion fashion projects tied to the franchise’s anniversary, with RADIO EVA also working with brands such as Seiko and FILA on watches and sneakers that reinterpret colors and imagery from the series as everyday fashion.

All three “EVANGELION MA-1 REMODEL by AVIREX” designs are available in M, L, XL and 2XL sizes and are priced at ¥77,000 each (approximately $490 / £369).
Sales began on September 26, 2026, with the jackets available through participating AVIREX stores in Japan and the brand’s official online store on Mix.tokyo.
