Evangelion Fully Reveals New Godzilla Crossover EVA-01 Model Kit as Pre-Orders Open
Image by Charlotte DavisX-Plus has fully revealed its upcoming “EVANGELION Unit-01 G-Awakening Form” plastic model kit, confirming the finished design, construction and display base as pre-orders officially get underway.
The model was first teased earlier this week with a small selection of images showing its fixed crouching pose, but details including its finished size, assembly structure and ruined city display had yet to be announced.
The G-Awakening Form comes from the wider Godzilla x Evangelion crossover project, which officially began in 2016 following Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno’s work as director and screenwriter on Shin Godzilla.
That crossover has since produced figures, artwork, and other merchandise combining the two franchises, while one of its strangest creations came through the Japan-only pachinko game “P Godzilla vs. Evangelion: G-Cell Awakening”.
The game features an original crossover story in which Unit-01 is struck by Godzilla’s atomic breath before invading G-Cells begin transforming its body, eventually creating the monstrous hybrid recreated by X-Plus.
The mutation leaves much of Unit-01’s familiar purple and green restraint armor intact while rough black skin breaks through from underneath, accompanied by a long tail and the huge dorsal fins normally associated with Godzilla.
X-Plus has chosen a fixed, non-articulated pose for the model, with Unit-01 leaning aggressively forward and roaring with its mouth wide open as its altered body hunches close to the ground.
The completed kit stands approximately 20cm tall and uses a pre-assembled central torso as its foundation, with builders attaching the surrounding skin and armor parts to create the finished body.
That construction method allows the kit to retain the irregular textures created by the G-Cell infection while keeping the overlapping sections of Unit-01’s armor clearly separated across the sculpt.
Several smaller details have also been prepared in advance, with the eyes and parts around the head antenna supplied pre-painted to reduce the amount of additional painting required to reproduce the finished appearance shown by X-Plus.
The latest reveal has also given us our first proper look at the dedicated display base, which recreates a heavily damaged city beneath the transformed Evangelion.
Broken reinforced concrete buildings and cracked asphalt surround Unit-01’s feet, helping emphasize the scale of the mutated EVA while giving the fixed pose a clear setting rather than leaving it standing on a simple flat base.
An “EVANGELION VS GODZILLA” nameplate runs across the front, tying the entire display directly back to the crossover project that produced the G-Awakening Form.
For fans who prefer something with a bit more articulation, Bandai is also releasing an S.H.MonsterArts version of the same transformation, which was developed with input from X-Plus and includes alternate parts and an Atomic Breath effect for creating different battle scenes.
X-Plus has previously used the G-Awakening design across its DEFOREAL range as well, including a Metallic Color version released earlier this year, but the new model kit gives fans the opportunity to assemble a much less stylized interpretation themselves.
The “EVANGELION Unit-01 G-Awakening Form Plastic Model Kit” is priced at ¥9,900 (approximately $63 USD / £47 GBP).
Japanese pre-orders are now open through Premium Bandai, with reservations scheduled to remain available until October 19 at 11:00 PM JST unless the available allocation is claimed earlier.
The X-Plus model kit is currently scheduled for release in December 2026.
