Popular Evangelion x Godzilla Crossover Figure Returns With Premium Metallic Makeover
PLEX and X-PLUS have revealed a new entry in their DEFOREAL collection, a figure line known for combining realistic sculpting with stylized, super-deformed proportions.
The latest release is based on EVANGELION Unit-01 “G” Awakening Form, a design originating from the long-running Godzilla vs. Evangelion crossover project.
The collaboration between the two iconic Japanese franchises began in 2016 following the release of Shin Godzilla, which was directed by Hideaki Anno.
Since its launch, the crossover initiative has produced a wide variety of merchandise and collectibles featuring elements from both Godzilla and Evangelion.
One of the most distinctive concepts to emerge from the project appeared in the pachinko title P Godzilla vs. Evangelion ~G-Cell Awakening~, which introduced an original scenario that merged the two universes into a single storyline.
Within that story, Evangelion Unit-01 is struck by Godzilla’s atomic breath and subsequently becomes infected with G-Cells, triggering a grotesque transformation that blends characteristics of both entities.
The unusual design later inspired a collectible figure release from PLEX that became particularly popular among fans and collectors.
The newly announced DEFOREAL EVANGELION Unit-01 “G” Awakening Form Metallic Color Ver. revisits that concept as an upgraded version of the earlier standard release.
Standing approximately 17 cm tall, the figure recreates the mutated EVA with a detailed sculpt that emphasizes its organic and distorted appearance while retaining the DEFOREAL line’s compact proportions.
The design carefully depicts damaged and crushed restraint armor surrounding the Evangelion’s body, highlighting the destructive effects of the transformation.
Beneath the restraints, the creature’s increasingly Godzilla-like anatomy is rendered with asymmetrical detailing that gives the figure a noticeably different appearance when viewed from the front, sides, or rear.
This metallic edition further enhances the visual impact through the use of metallic paint applications on the signature purple and green restraint sections.
The updated finish increases the sense of depth, weight, and mechanical presence while making the color scheme appear more vibrant and reflective.
The figure will be offered as a limited-distribution release available exclusively through Shonen RIC, Premium Bandai, Godzilla Store, and Evangelion Store.
DEFOREAL EVANGELION Unit-01 “G” Awakening Form Metallic Color Ver. is scheduled for release in August 2026 and carries a retail price of 16,500 yen (approx. $115 USD/ £84 GBP).
