Warning: This article contains minor spoilers for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza’s Return
The first chapter of the final arc of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba saga premiered in theaters today, Friday, the 18th of July.
The new film, titled The Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza’s Return, is the first of a planned trilogy that will adapt the climactic final battle from the original manga by Koyoharu Gotouge.

The movie picks up immediately after the “Hashira Training Arc” and plunges the Demon Slayer Corps into their ultimate confrontation with Muzan Kibutsuji and his remaining forces.
This first installment covers the story up to the conclusion of the fight between Tanjiro, Giyu, and the Upper Rank Three demon, Akaza.

A key strength of the film is its ability to visualize and expand upon moments that existed between the panels of the original manga.
The scale of the ever-shifting Infinity Castle is rendered with overwhelming detail, with anime-original scenes showing how the fortress actively works to disorient the Demon Slayers.

The film also adds new, original moments that flesh out the narrative, such as showing how separated groups of Hashira navigated the fortress, and a new scene where the supporting character Murata successfully uses his Water Breathing to defeat a demon.
The major confrontations of the arc are brought to life with the high-quality animation the series is known for.
The battle between Shinobu Kocho and the Upper Rank Two demon, Doma, is a highlight, with the visual effects of Doma’s ice-based Blood Demon Art and Shinobu’s swift Insect Breathing techniques creating a stunning spectacle, elevated by powerful vocal performances.

Similarly, the duel between Zenitsu Agatsuma and the new Upper Rank Six, Kaigaku, is a visually impressive display of Thunder Breathing techniques.
The climax of their fight, featuring Zenitsu’s self-created Seventh Form, “Honoikazuchi no Kami,” is a moment of peak emotional and visual intensity.

The main event, the rematch between Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka against Akaza, showcases the power difference between the characters, with the animation making it clear how Giyu expertly deflects Akaza’s attacks while Tanjiro is largely on the defensive.
The film also gives more screen time to Tanjiro’s process of unlocking the “Transparent World,” adding depth to his awakening.

In conclusion, the film serves as a successful and impressive start to the epic finale.
By combining spectacular animation that elevates the source material’s key battles, strong vocal performances that bring emotional depth, and thoughtful anime-original additions that enrich the narrative, the first chapter of the Infinity Castle Arc delivers a powerful and satisfying cinematic experience for fans.
