Demon Slayer breaks its own box office record as Infinity Castle becomes fastest film ever to earn over 10 billion yen

The new film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza’s Return, has set a new, all-time record at the Japanese box office.
The film’s distributor, Aniplex, announced the latest box office results on Monday, the 28th of July, 2025.

In its first ten days of release, from the 18th of July to the 27th of July, 2025, the movie has drawn an audience of over 9.1 million people.
This has resulted in a total box office revenue of over 12.87 billion yen.

According to the box office tracking firm Kogyo Tsushinsha, the film reached the 10 billion yen milestone in just eight days, making it the fastest film in Japanese history to achieve this feat.
Significantly, the film has broken the previous record, which was held by its own predecessor, the 2020 blockbuster Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train.

The Mugen Train film reached the 10 billion yen mark in ten days, a record that was considered extraordinary at the time.
This new achievement means that the Demon Slayer franchise has now set and then broken the record for the fastest film to reach this major box office milestone.

The film is the first chapter in a planned trilogy that will adapt the “Infinity Castle Arc,” the final, climactic storyline from the original manga by Koyoharu Gotouge.

The massive success of this first part signals a powerful start for the three-part finale of the globally popular series.

The movie depicts the beginning of the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the series’ primary antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji, and his remaining forces.
Japanese cinema-goers have been treated to a variety of special events and merchandise surrounding the film’s release, with a huge range of exclusive merchandise being made available at cinemas for fans to purchase alongside a Japan-exclusive popcorn bucket.
