Bandai Shows Off the PG UNLEASHED Nu Gundam Ahead of Release
Bandai Spirits Hobby Division has released a comprehensive introduction video for the latest addition to its highest-tier model kit line, featuring the lead mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack.
The PG UNLEASHED 1/60 Nu Gundam is being released as a flagship item to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Gunpla.
This release marks the first time the Nu Gundam has been realized in the 1/60 scale under the “PERFECT GRADE UNLEASHED” brand, which aims to break free from traditional design constraints to create the ultimate representation of a Mobile Suit.
The newly released video showcases the kit’s “persuasive structure” and “overwhelming detail,” highlighting the extreme reproduction of the internal mechanisms.
The footage provides a closer look at the model’s extensive gimmicks, including its wide range of articulation, the complex “hatch open” modes that reveal the inner frame, and the mechanical linkage of the large-scale Fin Funnels.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, released in 1988, serves as the dramatic conclusion to the long-standing rivalry between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable.
In the film, the RX-93 Nu Gundam is designed by Amuro himself and constructed by Anaheim Electronics to counter Char’s Neo Zeon forces.
It is famous within the lore for being the first Gundam to utilize “Psycho-Frame” technology, a material built into the cockpit frame that amplifies the pilot’s brainwaves, allowing for direct mental control of the suit and its remote weapons.
The release of this high-end kit arrives during a significant week for Char’s Counterattack merchandise.
Just recently, Bandai Spirits also announced the development of the METAL ROBOT Spirits Sazabi, the rival machine piloted by Char Aznable.
While the Sazabi figure focuses on die-cast stability in a smaller scale, the PG UNLEASHED Nu Gundam offers a massive, build-it-yourself experience that mirrors the engineering complexity of the actual mobile suit, allowing fans to appreciate the mechanical differences between the two legendary adversaries.
The PG UNLEASHED 1/60 Nu Gundam is priced at 66,000 yen (approx. $445.00 USD / £350.00 GBP).
The kit is scheduled to go on sale on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at hobby retailers across Japan.
