Bandai Celebrates Gundam X’s 30th Anniversary with Exclusive New GX-Bit Gunpla Kit
Image by Charlotte DavisBandai has officially revealed the first dedicated Gunpla kit based on After War Gundam X’s GX-Bit, finally giving the Newtype-controlled Mobile Suit its own modern High Grade release.
The “HG 1/144 GX-Bit” received its first public display at the 64th All Japan Model & Hobby Show, recreating the unmanned support machine developed to fight alongside the GX-9900 Gundam X.

After War Gundam X takes place 15 years after the devastating Seventh Space War, following Garrod Ran and Tiffa Adill as they become caught up in conflicts surrounding Newtypes and the powerful technology left behind by the old Earth Federation.

The GX-Bit was developed by the United Nations Earth Army specifically for Newtype pilots of the Gundam X and operates through the Flash System, allowing multiple unmanned Mobile Suits to be controlled directly through the pilot’s mental commands.

A single Newtype can command as many as 12 GX-Bits at once, creating an entire coordinated squadron that can fight alongside the Gundam X without requiring individual pilots.
Despite functioning as an unmanned support unit, the GX-Bit is considerably more substantial than a conventional remote weapon and closely follows the size and basic design of the Gundam X itself.

Its head replaces the Gundam X’s more traditional Gundam-style face with a dedicated sensor block used to receive Flash System commands, while several areas of the body simplify details found on the manned machine.
The GX-Bit’s weapon loadout mirrors the extraordinary firepower available to Gundam X, including its own Satellite Cannon, Shield Buster Rifle and Beam Sword.

That Satellite Cannon allows multiple GX-Bits to receive microwave energy from the lunar power transmission system before firing alongside one another, giving a Newtype pilot control over an enormous amount of long-range firepower.
Groups of GX-Bits were deployed during the Seventh Space War, with their ability to operate as a coordinated force making them one of the most destructive applications of the Flash System developed during the conflict.

Bandai’s newly created High Grade kit recreates the Mobile Suit’s simplified Gundam X-inspired armor alongside the distinctive sensor head, rear Satellite Cannon, and large reflector unit used to receive energy from the moon.
The Shield Buster Rifle and Beam Sword are also represented, giving the 1/144-scale model the core weapons needed to reproduce both ranged and close-combat configurations from the anime.

The reveal arrives during After War Gundam X’s 30th anniversary year, which has already expanded the modern High Grade lineup with completely new kits of Gundam Leopard, Gundam Virsago and Gundam Ashtaron.

Bandai has also unveiled the first-ever “MG 1/100 Gundam X Divider” at the same All Japan Model & Hobby Show, finally bringing Garrod Ran’s heavily rebuilt Gundam X into the Master Grade lineup.

Outside Gunpla, the anniversary has continued with projects including the new Gundam X FLASH sequel manga, which reunites Garrod and Tiffa three decades after the original anime first aired.

The “HG 1/144 GX-Bit” will be a Gundam Base limited kit, and it is scheduled for release in January 2027, priced at ¥2,200 (approximately $14 / £11).
