August 13 Release Set for Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns

Publisher Nordcurrent Labs and developer Black Tower Basement have announced that Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns will launch on August 13, 2026.

This modern revival of the classic Amiga title is set to arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via both Steam and GOG.

The upcoming release features three separate game modes designed to cater to both nostalgic fans and new players.

Retro Mode provides an authentic experience by allowing users to play the original Amiga version of the legendary strategy game.

Classic Mode offers a reimagined take on the title with updated visuals and refined gameplay mechanics for a contemporary audience.

Kingdom Mode introduces a roguelite deck-building experience where players use dice-based combat to navigate a map and conquer enemy strongholds.

In this new mode, players must defeat three enemy lords while contending with randomized encounters involving brigands and Norman forces.

Combat strategy relies on tactical card play and dice rolls determined by specific army units, with new relics and mechanics appearing as the campaign progresses.

Beyond the battlefield, the game includes activities such as participating in tournaments, rescuing Saxon ladies, and besieging enemy castles to weaken their defenses.
