Minamiizu Sakura and Nanohana Festival 2026

Last Updated on March 5, 2026

The southern tip of Shizuoka’s Izu Peninsula is preparing to host the Minamiizu Sakura and Nanohana Festival, a seasonal event celebrating the arrival of spring through a vivid display of flora.

Approximately 800 cherry blossom trees are set to bloom along a four kilometer stretch of the Aono River, creating a scenic canopy of pink petals for visitors to enjoy.

The natural spectacle is complemented by the nearby Hino Nanohana Field, which spans three hectares and will be carpeted in bright yellow blossoms.

Centering on the Roadside Station Shimogamo Onsen Yunohana, the festival will feature various stalls offering local food items and unique goods to those exploring the riverside.

This region is known for its early blooming Kawazu-zakura trees, which provide a longer viewing season compared to the more common Yoshino variety found in other parts of Japan.

Travelers planning to attend can find the festivities alongside the riverbanks where the combination of pink trees and yellow fields provides a striking landscape.

For those arriving by car, a parking fee of 500 yen per vehicle will be collected to support the environmental upkeep and preservation of the local area.

The event serves as a significant draw for nature enthusiasts and photographers looking to capture the contrasting colors of the Shizuoka countryside in early spring.
