Konami has revealed a new rule set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG that will see some of its most iconic forbidden cards make a return to decks.

The brand new “GENESYS” format introduces a unique point-based deck-building system that dramatically changes how players approach their strategies.

Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG is a globally massive trading card game where players construct customized decks of monsters, spells, and traps to defeat their opponents in thrilling duels.

The competitive scene is typically governed by standard “Master Rules”, which strictly regulate the flow of the game and restrict overpowering combinations to maintain a fair environment.

Over the years, countless cards have been added to the forbidden list to prevent unbalanced strategies from dominating local and international tournaments.

The new “GENESYS” rules deviate from the standard Master Rules in four major ways to offer a completely different dueling experience.

The first major change is the complete removal of the traditional limit regulations.

This means that players are completely free to use cards that are normally forbidden, limited, or semi-limited in standard tournament play.

Notorious legacy cards such as Pot of Greed and Magical Scientist can finally be placed back into active decks.

However, players cannot simply fill their hands with endless powerful cards due to the second major rule change.

The format requires competitors to build their decks within a strict allocated point limit.

Specific powerful cards are assigned a set point value, and the combined total across the Main, Extra, and Side decks cannot exceed the designated maximum.

While the upper limit is generally set to 100 points, this cap can be adjusted depending on the specific event.

The third major difference completely bans the use of Pendulum Monsters and Link Monsters.

This restriction also applies to any Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz monsters that also possess Pendulum mechanics.

Finally, the fourth rule change entirely removes both the Extra Monster Zones and the Pendulum Zones from the physical playmat layout.

Players can easily check the assigned point values for individual cards and calculate their total deck cost using the official “Yu-Gi-Oh! Neuron” smartphone application.

This fresh rule set promises to bring a nostalgic yet deeply strategic layer to casual matches between friends and official competitive events alike.
