US One Piece Card Game Shops Implement New Anti-Scalping Policy
A strict new point-of-sale protocol has been introduced to combat the aggressive resale market plaguing the trading card game community.
The management of the U.S. ONE PIECE CARD GAME Official Shop has confirmed that sealed booster boxes will no longer be sold with their factory wrapping intact.
The One Piece Card Game, published by Bandai, has faced severe inventory shortages since its global launch due to overwhelming demand and the intervention of opportunistic resellers.
This issue mirrors the problems frequently seen in the Pokémon Trading Card Game sector, where inventory is often bought out instantly by individuals known as “scalpers” who intend to flip the items for a profit on secondary markets.
By removing the factory shrink wrap at the register, the retailer effectively converts the product from “factory sealed” to “opened” status in the eyes of collectors.
This action significantly lowers the item’s value on resale platforms like StockX or eBay, where buyers pay a premium for the guarantee of a sealed box, thereby discouraging those buying solely for speculative investment.
The cards inside the box remain untouched, ensuring that players and fans who intend to open the packs for gameplay can still enjoy the product as intended.
The store explicitly addressed the reasoning behind this decision in a public notice, asking for cooperation from the customer base.
The full statement released by the retailer reads as follows:
“To help prevent resale and ensure the continued availability of our products, we will remove the shrink wrap from booster boxes at the time of purchase in all U.S. ONE PIECE CARD GAME Official Shops. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”
The policy applies to all U.S. ONE PIECE CARD GAME Official Shop locations moving forward.
