Universal Studios Japan Reveals Resident Evil Licker Popcorn Bucket for Halloween 2026
Image by Charlotte DavisUniversal Studios Japan (USJ) is preparing one of its most unsettling food collectibles yet, transforming a familiar Resident Evil creature into a functional popcorn bucket for this year’s Halloween season.
The new Licker Popcorn Bucket forms part of a wider collaboration celebrating both the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil and the 15th anniversary of Halloween Horror Nights at the Osaka theme park.
Resident Evil began as a survival-horror game from Capcom in 1996 and has since developed into a global franchise spanning video games, movies, animation and merchandise, with its grotesque creatures remaining among the series’ most recognizable elements.
The Licker first appeared in Resident Evil 2 and is known for its exposed brain, elongated tongue, sharp claws and ability to crawl across walls and ceilings while hunting its victims.
USJ has recreated those features across the new bucket, with its stretched tongue, threatening claws, teeth and exposed head giving the collectible a deliberately grotesque appearance.
The head opens to reveal the popcorn compartment inside, allowing guests to retrieve miso-flavored popcorn directly from beneath the creature’s exposed brain.
Its claws and teeth are made from softer materials, reducing the risk of the sharper details becoming uncomfortable while carrying the bucket around the park.
This is the first Resident Evil-themed popcorn bucket produced for Universal Studios Japan, giving the anniversary collaboration a collectible that fans can continue displaying after the event has ended.
The bucket will be sold from the popcorn cart located in front of Stage 22, although quantities will be limited and availability may end once the allocated stock has sold out.
Universal Studios Japan has also teased additional original food and merchandise inspired by Resident Evil, with further announcements expected closer to the start of the Halloween season.
The wider merchandise collection will include a new costume-style shirt inspired by the Raccoon City Police Department, allowing fans to dress like members of the organization closely associated with several of the franchise’s protagonists.
A matching 3-Way Bag can be worn as a waist pouch, shoulder bag, or chest bag, offering a more practical accessory while retaining visual details connected to the world of Resident Evil.
These products will be joined by several other collaboration items at the Cinema 4-D Store, although guests will need to present a valid same-day park ticket or annual pass when making a purchase.
The collaboration will also introduce Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive, an R-15 horror maze inspired by Capcom’s latest entry in the long-running survival-horror series.
Resident Evil Requiem follows FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft as she investigates a series of mysterious deaths connected to the abandoned Wrenwood Hotel near the restricted ruins of Raccoon City.
The attraction places guests inside that same investigation after Grace suddenly disappears, leading them through damaged alleyways, corroded emergency staircases and hotel corridors filled with crumbling walls and the bodies of previous victims.
Creatures can attack from the ceiling, floor and surrounding environment, creating a 360-degree experience designed to make it difficult for guests to predict where the next threat will appear.
Similar to last year’s event featuring Leon and Claire, live-action sequences featuring Leon and Grace will unfold directly in front of visitors, adding character-driven action to the practical sets, creature encounters, and maze structure.
Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive will be located at Stage 18 and is scheduled to operate from 10:00 AM until the park closes each day from September 11 through December 27, 2026, continuing several weeks beyond the wider Halloween Horror Nights season.
The merchandise and Licker Popcorn Bucket will both go on sale inside Universal Studios Japan on September 9, 2026, two days before the main Halloween event begins.
