Tokyo International Comedy Festival

The Tokyo International Comedy Festival is returning for an eleven-day celebration of stand-up comedy.

As Japan’s sole Western-style stand-up comedy festival, the 2025 event will feature more than 50 shows across eight different locations.

The festival will showcase a mix of Japanese and international talent performing a wide variety of comedy formats.

This includes everything from individual solo acts and improvisation to competitive roast battles and live podcast tapings.

The event kicks off on September 11th with a headline performance by renowned American-Lebanese comedian Sammy Obeid at the Mame Romantic venue in Daikanyama.

A key feature of the opening weekend is Roastfest 2025, which runs from September 12th to the 14th.

This segment will pit international comics against top local performers in what is billed as Asia’s largest-ever Roast Battle.

Additionally, a special live taping of the show “Your Hood’s a Joke” hosted by Danish Anwar is scheduled for Sunday, September 14th.

Following the opening weekend, the festival continues with numerous other shows held at the Tokyo Comedy Bar and other satellite locations.

    • The festival’s main hub can be reached via a short walk from Shibuya Station.

      • This major hub is served by multiple lines including the JR Yamanote Line, Tokyo Metro Ginza and Hanzomon Lines, and the Keio Inokashira Line.
      • The venue is a short distance from the station’s Hachiko exit.
