The Apothecary Diaries is getting a feature film in December 2026

A massive new expansion has been announced for the hit anime series The Apothecary Diaries, headlined by the production of a brand-new feature film.
The movie, which is scheduled for a December 2026 release, will feature a completely new, original story with a story concept provided by the series’ original author, Natsu Hyūga.
This announcement was made as part of a “2nd Anniversary Commemorative Trailer” for the anime:
The film will be directed by Norihiro Naganuma, who served as the director and series supervisor for the anime’s first season.
In addition to the film, a third season of the TV anime was also officially confirmed.

Season 3 is scheduled to be a split two-cour (quarter of a year) broadcast.
The first cour is set to premiere in October 2026, with the second cour following in April 2027.
This new season will be directed by Noriaki Akitaya (who directed Season 2) and will pick up the story as Maomao and Jinshi move from the imperial palace out into the city, facing new challenges.

A new “super teaser visual” for the third season has been released, which features a striking image of the protagonist, Maomao, with a determined expression, accompanied by the tagline, “In her eyes, a supreme mystery flickers.”

The first two seasons of the anime, produced by TOHO animation STUDIO and OLM, were massive critical and commercial successes, driving the original light novel and manga series to over 24 million copies in circulation.

Comments celebrating the news were also released from the author, Natsu Hyūga, and the main voice actors, Aoi Yūki (Maomao) and Takeo Ōtsuka (Jinshi).

To celebrate the continuing success of the franchise, a special retrospective screening of the TV anime is scheduled to be held in Japan starting in February 2026.

An official Apothecary Diaries exhibition will also begin a tour of Asia, starting with a stop in Hong Kong this November.
