The Apothecary Diaries Expands Into Gaming With New Browser-Based Palace Adventure

The world of The Apothecary Diaries has expanded once again with the launch of a new browser-based game titled “The Apothecary Diaries: Palace Chronicles,” released by online gaming platform G123.
Inspired by the popular light novel series created by Hyuganatsu and illustrated by Touko Shino, the game places players alongside Maomao as they investigate incidents and unravel mysteries throughout the imperial palace.

The Apothecary Diaries follows the story of Maomao, a highly intelligent young apothecary whose extensive knowledge of medicine draws her into the political intrigue, secrets, and unusual cases that emerge within the Imperial Court.

Over time, the franchise has grown from its light novel origins into a multimedia success that includes manga adaptations, anime productions, and now an interactive gaming experience.

In “The Apothecary Diaries: Palace Chronicles,” players are tasked with helping Maomao develop her skills while taking on a variety of investigations spread across different areas of the palace.

The gameplay revolves around solving incidents through the use of Maomao’s pharmaceutical expertise, carefully prepared remedies, and deductive reasoning as players progress through the story.

A unique feature known as the Medical Office system allows players to improve and expand their facilities by investing resources collected during gameplay.

The title has been designed as a browser game, allowing access across smartphones, tablets, and personal computers without the need to download additional software.

Players can begin playing free of charge, although optional in-game purchases are available for those wishing to access additional content or progression options.

The Apothecary Diaries first began as a web novel when Hyuganatsu started publishing it on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform in October 2011.

The series later received a print light novel release from Shufunotomo in August 2014, featuring illustrations by Touko Shino.
The franchise’s popularity led to multiple manga adaptations, including an ongoing version by Nekokurage that debuted in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine in May 2017.

A separate manga adaptation illustrated by Minoji Kurata also launched during 2017, providing readers with an alternative interpretation of the story.
The anime adaptation made its television debut in October 2023 with a special premiere consisting of its first three episodes before continuing across two consecutive cours.

The series attracted a global audience through international streaming services and later returned for a second season in January 2025, which also aired across two continuous cours.
The franchise’s momentum shows no signs of slowing, with a third television anime season already announced, featuring its first part scheduled for October 2026 and its second part planned for April 2027, while a theatrical film is also set to premiere in December 2026.

“The Apothecary Diaries: Palace Chronicles” is available now as a free-to-play browser game through G123, with optional in-game purchases offered for players seeking additional features and progression opportunities.
