Square Enix announces new Final Fantasy IX 25th anniversary exhibition
An exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary of the beloved role-playing game, Final Fantasy IX, has been officially announced by Square Enix.
The event is titled “FINAL FANTASY IX 25th ANNIVERSARY THE EXHIBITION -The Place I’ll Return to Someday-.”
Final Fantasy IX, which was first released in the year 2000, is the ninth mainline entry in the long-running series.
Created under the theme of a “return to the origin,” the game is known for its charming, fantasy-world aesthetic and its heartfelt story, which follows the thief Zidane, the princess Garnet, and the black mage Vivi on a grand adventure.
The new exhibition will be a celebration of the game’s enduring legacy.
It has been announced that the event will feature the first-ever public display of development materials from the original game, alongside a variety of other exhibits.
In addition to the main exhibition, a fan-participation project is also underway.
Square Enix are currently accepting submissions of fan art and “memory comments” from players around the world.
A selection of these submitted fan works will be displayed as part of the physical exhibition, allowing the community’s own memories to become a part of the celebration.
Further details regarding other specific contents of the exhibition have not yet been announced.
The “FINAL FANTASY IX 25th ANNIVERSARY THE EXHIBITION” will be held at the 8th-floor event space of the Yurakucho Marui department store in Tokyo.
The event is scheduled to run for sixteen days, from Saturday, the 22nd of November, to Sunday, the 7th of December, 2025.
