Sold out Astro Bot PS5 controller gets a re-release with a difference this September

ASTRO BOT CONTROLLER

Sony has officially announced that it is re-releasing its highly sought-after and popular PlayStation 5 DualSense controller themed around the hit game “Astro Bot”.

The original version of the controller was released in 2024 to coincide with the game’s launch and was an immediate success with fans.

The original Astro Bot controller sold out instantly

Initial stock sold out very quickly, which led to the controller being resold on auction sites for significantly more than its retail price.

In response to what it described as “endless requests” from fans who missed out, PlayStation is now bringing the controller back with a minor design tweak.

This new version is officially being called the “Joyful” edition.

The main body of the controller remains the same, featuring a white and blue color scheme with the iconic PlayStation button symbols decorating the grips.

The only notable difference appears to be the touchpad design.

The original controller featured the two blue, circular eyes of Astro Bot, whilst the new “Joyful” edition alters these eyes, curving them upwards to give the controller a happy, smiling expression.

This new version offers fans who were unable to purchase the original a second chance to own one of the most beloved special edition PS5 controllers.

A price for the new “Joyful” edition has not yet been officially shared, though the original version was priced at $80 USD.

The controller will be available for purchase through the official PlayStation Direct online store and at other “participating retailers.”

Pre-orders for the “Joyful” edition of the Astro Bot PS5 DualSense controller are set to open on Friday, the 12th of September, at 10:00 AM local time.

The controller is scheduled to be officially released on Thursday, the 30th of October.
