SEGA Releases New Live-Action Yakuza Series on Amazon Prime Video

Sega has officially launched its highly anticipated live-action drama, “Ryu ga Gotoku Powered by Nihon Toitsu,” with all episodes now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
The project represents a powerhouse collaboration between Ryu ga Gotoku Studio and the production team behind the legendary direct-to-video yakuza saga, Nihon Toitsu (Japan Unity).

This three-episode miniseries is meticulously supervised by the original game developers to ensure a “faithful to the original” experience that bridges the gap between the digital and live-action worlds.

The series isn’t just a standalone adaptation, as the story leads directly into the events of “Yakuza Kiwami 3 / Yakuza 3 Gaiden: Dark Ties,” which is slated for a worldwide release in just on February 12th.

For fans of the franchise, the drama provides essential context for the “Dark Ties” storyline, diving into the gritty underworld politics and personal loyalties that define the series.

The casting brings a seasoned, authentic weight to the beloved characters of Kamurocho.

The lead roles are filled by veterans of the Japanese crime drama genre and the “Nihon Toitsu” universe.

Yasukaze Motomiya (Star/Producer of Nihon Toitsu) steps into the iconic suit of the Dragon of Dojima, Kazuma Kiryu.

Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi takes on the wild, unpredictable role of the “Mad Dog of Shimano,” Goro Majima.

Kazuhiro Nakatani portrays the tragic and ambitious Akira Nishikiyama.

Kenji Matsuda appears as the world-weary detective Makoto Date.

By utilizing the production staff from Nihon Toitsu, Sega has ensured that the choreography and atmosphere maintain the “yakuza” realism fans expect, while the supervision from RGG Studio guarantees that the soul of the game series remains intact.

The release of the drama marks the start of an important period for the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise, culminating in the launch of “Yakuza Kiwami 3 / Yakuza 3 Gaiden: Dark Ties.”
