Satoshi Kon’s Paprika celebrates its 20th anniversary with new atmos apparel collection

The Japanese sneaker and streetwear retailer “atmos” has announced a special collaboration collection to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the animated film Paprika.
Released in 2006, Paprika is a celebrated science fiction psychological thriller directed by the late Satoshi Kon and based on the novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui.

The film is renowned globally for its dazzling animation, seamless transitions between dreams and reality, and a vibrant color palette that has influenced filmmakers worldwide.

The story follows a research psychologist who uses a device to enter psychiatric patients’ dreams to help them, but soon finds herself battling a terrorist who invades dreams to cause mental breakdowns.

This new collection coincides with a double anniversary, celebrating 20 years of the film and 25 years of the atmos brand.

To properly capture the film’s chaotic and vivid visual style, atmos has employed a complex manufacturing process for this apparel line.

The flagship items in the collection feature a “15-screen” silk screen printing method, a technique requiring high-level skill to layer colors accurately.

This method was chosen specifically to replicate the intense saturation and psychedelic imagery synonymous with the movie’s dream sequences.

These shirts use a heavy-weight fabric spun with an open-end spinning machine, providing a dry, vintage texture that holds the ink well.

In contrast to the colorful designs, the collection also offers a “Monochrome Decomposition” line for a more subtle look.

These designs use a 7-screen print process to create a stark, chic aesthetic using only black and white tones while maintaining intricate detail.

This release is part of a growing wave of high-profile fashion collaborations with classic anime and gaming properties in early 2026.

AVIREX recently revealed high-end flight jackets for Final Fantasy VII Remake, utilizing real leather and intricate embroidery.

Similarly, New Era has integrated the PlayStation brand into its line of professional-grade headwear, targeting adult fans looking for sophisticated ways to wear their fandom.

Like those collections, this Paprika line targets streetwear enthusiasts who appreciate the intersection of animation art and fashion.
To celebrate the launch, special pop-up events will be held at “atmos URAHARA” in Tokyo and “atmos Shinsaibashi” in Osaka.

These events will feature a unique apparel customization workshop, allowing fans to create one-of-a-kind items using custom heat-transfer sheets while supplies last.
