Sanrio Celebrates 30 Years of Pompompurin with Adorable New Anniversary Merch Collection
Pompompurin’s 30th anniversary celebrations are continuing with a new collection that looks back across the Sanrio character’s history while introducing some cute postal-themed collectibles and plush designs.
The six-item collection has been created in collaboration with Japan Post, combining commemorative stamps and stationery with new merchandise that transforms Pompompurin into an appropriately soft version of a traditional Japanese New Year treat.
Pompompurin, a laid-back Golden Retriever recognizable by his brown beret, made his debut in 1996 and has become one of Sanrio’s biggest stars over the three decades since his introduction.
His enduring popularity was reinforced by the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking, where Pompompurin finished first in a worldwide fan vote that attracted more than 70 million votes across the full roster of participating characters.
At the center of the new anniversary collection is the Pompompurin 30th Frame Stamp set, priced at ¥5,500 (approx. $35 USD / £26 GBP), which brings together artwork from different periods of the character’s 30-year history to create a visual retrospective in stamp form.
The stamps are presented with a backing sheet inside a highly transparent commemorative clear file finished with gold foil detailing, turning the set into more of a display piece than a conventional sheet of postage stamps.
The Pompompurin L-Size Date Stamp, priced at ¥4,950 (approx. $32 USD / £24 GBP), uses a postage stamp-inspired illustration and incorporates an adjustable date mechanism, while the date can also be raised out of the way when owners only want to print the surrounding design.
A matching Stamp Pad, priced at ¥1,540 (approx. $10 USD / £7 GBP), features Pompompurin alongside his friends and contains black ink that can be used with the anniversary date stamp or other stamps.
The Silicone Mat, priced at ¥990 (approx. $6 USD / £5 GBP), can serve as a stamping mat or coaster and carries the 30th anniversary logo on its reverse, while its illustrated surface also makes it suitable for simply displaying with the rest of the collection.
The softer side of the range comes from the Pompompurin Omochi Mochi Mochi Cushion, priced at ¥4,950 (approx. $32 USD / £24 GBP), which reimagines the smiling character as a kagami mochi-inspired decoration complete with a tied ornament and an appropriately squishy finish.
A smaller Omochi Mochi Mochi Mascot, priced at ¥2,200 (approx. $14 USD / £10 GBP), recreates the same design in a palm-sized format and adds a ball chain so it can be attached to a bag or displayed alongside other Pompompurin accessories.
Collectors who want the entire anniversary lineup can instead order the complete six-item set for ¥20,130 (approx. $129 USD / £95 GBP), which includes one of every product in the collection.
Orders are being accepted through Japan Post’s online store until August 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM JST, with shipping scheduled to being from December 19, 2026.
