Sanrio announces plans to open a large scale resort in Japan

Sanrio has officially announced a comprehensive plan to transform their existing Harmonyland theme park in Japan’s Oita Prefecture into a major entertainment resort.

The basic concept for the resort was unveiled on December 8, 2025, alongside a location announcement ceremony held at the Oita Prefectural Office.

Harmonyland, located in Hiji Town, Oita Prefecture, will celebrate its 35th anniversary next year.

The transformation plan aims to create “The Kindest Place in the World” by blending Sanrio’s unique entertainment with Oita’s beautiful nature, hot springs, and warm hospitality.

The core of the new vision is the “Sky Park” concept, which utilizes the park’s majestic terrain and elevation.

A massive roof to ensure the park is enjoyable year-round, regardless of rain or heat.

This major development follows the recent designation of Oita Airport as “Oita Hello Kitty Airport” and the launch of the Harmony Liner bus, strengthening the tie-up between the prefecture and the brand.
